Carson Daly is using his voice to help his kids.
The former host of *Total Request Live* recently shared the guidance he’s giving his 16-year-old son, Jackson, who is beginning his own career in front of the camera. Jackson’s early work includes an interview with Blake Shelton on *Nightly News With Lester Holt: Kids Edition* in 2023.
Carson shared with TopMob News at a recent mental health gala in New York City that he focuses on being supportive for a friend, letting him know he’s always available to help. He also explained that he learned the most from his own father through his actions, not his words. “My dad showed me what to do by example,” he said.
The Voice host, who shares three daughters – Etta, 13, London, 11, and Goldie, 5 – with his wife, Siri Daly, explained that he believes his son watches his career and he often brings him to events like the one they were attending.
Even if Jackson—who also spoke with golfer Scottie Scheffler in March—decides to go in a different direction and not appear on camera, Carson says he would still support that decision.
You know, at the end of the day, all anyone really wants is for the people they care about to be happy. I truly feel that way about him – I just want him to find whatever it is that brings him joy, and I’m sending him all my best on his journey. It’s honestly the most important thing.
Carson has long championed mental health and openly discussed prioritizing his children’s wellbeing.
He explained to *People* magazine last October that people generally think of health in two ways: physical and mental. Just as you’d see a doctor for a physical injury, like a hurt wrist, it’s important to talk to someone if you’re struggling with sadness or difficult thoughts and feelings. He emphasized that seeking help for mental and emotional challenges is just as important as seeking help for physical ones.
In fact, the 52-year-old treats his kids like adults because he knows they can handle it.
Carson explained that he consistently treats his audience as if they are mature adults. He challenges them intellectually, assuming they’re capable of understanding complex ideas, and he frequently presents them with information to test their knowledge.
He also openly discusses his marriage with his wife, Siri, even sharing about their weekly couples therapy. He explains to his children, ‘Marriage takes work. This helps mom and dad.’
