March was a significant month for Cartoon Network. Many of their beloved classic shows, including The Powerpuff Girls, Ed, Edd n Eddy, and Dexter’s Laboratory, became available on the free streaming service Tubi. However, one Cartoon Network creator recently announced they are ending a fundraising project, sharing the reasons with fans after things didn’t go as planned.
Last month, John R. Dilworth, the creator of Courage the Cowardly Dog, started a cryptocurrency fundraiser that initially seemed suspicious to many fans, who thought his account might have been hacked. It was later confirmed that Dilworth was genuinely trying to raise money for new animated films. However, the campaign received negative feedback from fans, leading Dilworth to cancel it. He announced on social media, “You’re a wonderful group of fans. You don’t want Courage involved with crypto, and I respect that! I’ll find another way to fund my movies. Thank you!”
Courage The Crypto Dog

Since it ended in 2002, Courage the Cowardly Dog has remained a beloved Cartoon Network original. This was highlighted by a 2021 crossover event, Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog, which brought the characters back together. While there haven’t been any further announcements about a return, the show’s arrival on Tubi is likely to attract a new wave of viewers to Nowhere.
Although it recently reappeared this month, the return of Courage the Cowardly Dog wasn’t guaranteed. After being removed from HBO Max last July, fans weren’t sure if they’d ever see Courage, Eustice, and Muriel again. Fortunately, Tubi picked up the show, and you can now stream Courage the Cowardly Dog on their free service for the time being.
Tubi has had great success with content from Warner Bros., especially the Looney Tunes franchise featuring characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Since adding Looney Tunes last year, Tubi has reported strong viewership numbers. This success likely played a role in their decision to also include shows from Cartoon Network. While there are no current plans announced for a new Courage the Cowardly Dog series, bringing back classic animated shows is a popular trend. Given that Courage previously appeared in a special alongside Scooby-Doo decades after his show ended, another return isn’t out of the question.
