Now that streaming services are more popular than cable TV, shows that used to air on Cartoon Network are finding new homes online. For instance, the spin-off series Fionna and Cake, based on Adventure Time, is now available on HBO Max. While Max has featured several Cartoon Network animated shows, a major franchise recently saw a successful return on Hulu. It looks like the future is bright for everyone’s favorite Cartoon Network cat after its popular comeback.
Hulu has ordered two more seasons of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, just before the second season premieres on December 22nd. The show announced the renewal with a festive new poster featuring Gumball and Darwin helping Santa Claus deliver presents—and a peek at some characters filling Santa’s sack! While we don’t know exactly when the new seasons will arrive, it’s exciting news for fans of animation.

Gumball’s Return Celebration

Vanessa Brookman, Head of International Kids at Warner Bros. Discovery, enthusiastically supported the renewal of “The Amazing World of Gumball.” She explained that the show’s global appeal to both families and fans made extending it a simple decision. Brookman is excited to continue collaborating with Ben, Sarah, and the entire Gumball team to deliver more of the show’s unique brand of fun to Cartoon Network viewers around the world.
Sarah Fell, head of Hanna-Barbera Studios, also celebrated the announcement of seasons three and four, saying “Gumball has been a huge hit for us, and it’s been wonderful to see fans so excited about the return of these characters. The success is thanks to Ben Bocquelet, Erik Fountain, Matt Layzell, and the entire creative team, and we’re thrilled to bring even more of the show’s unique humor to viewers. Best of all, fans won’t have to wait another seven years for new episodes!”
The animated series The Amazing World of Gumball, which first introduced the blue cat Gumball, premiered on Cartoon Network in 2011 and ran for almost 250 episodes. Now, years after the original series ended, Gumball is back, and it’s no surprise Hulu has ordered more seasons to continue the adventures. Though the show’s return won’t be quite the same on Cartoon Network, the new version, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, could end up with a similar number of episodes overall.
