Cartoon Network Series Returning Right in Time For The Spooky Season

It’s October, and that means it’s time for spooky season! Cartoon Network is embracing the spirit with shows that mix laughs and the supernatural – think classics like *Courage the Cowardly Dog* and *The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy*. But for many fans, one show truly captures the feeling of autumn. Get ready, Cartoon Network lovers, because it’s almost time to revisit the world of the Unknown!

Though it only originally aired one season in 2014, *Over the Garden Wall* has become a yearly autumn favorite for many fans. The animated series, starring Wirt and Greg, is returning to Cartoon Network on October 17th with a marathon of all ten episodes. Starting at 2:30 PM Eastern, viewers can enjoy the entire series back-to-back. With each episode lasting just around eleven minutes, it’s easy to watch the whole season at once—it’s almost like watching a full-length movie! While fans are still hoping for a sequel, there’s currently no news about a return to the Unknown.

Why is Over The Garden Wall so Loved?

Despite only having ten episodes, *Over the Garden Wall*, created by Patrick McHale, has become a Cartoon Network classic. The series features a captivating story, memorable characters, and a unique visual style. Like other shows on the network, it’s often funny, but it also delivers genuinely creepy moments. While enjoyable for all ages, *Over the Garden Wall* doesn’t shy away from being spooky when the story calls for it.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the animated show in 2024, Cartoon Network created a special stop-motion episode that revisited the series and its main characters. The special was made by Aardman Animations, the studio behind popular projects like *Chicken Run*, *Shaun the Sheep*, and *Wallace and Gromit*. The show’s creator, Patrick McHale, was excited to discuss the anniversary and the new special last year.

It’s been fantastic collaborating with Aardman on this new short film, created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series. We chose stop motion animation as a way to revisit Wirt and Greg’s story while staying true to the original show. Plus, I’ve always loved stop motion and dreamed of working at Aardman, so this project has been incredibly meaningful to me. Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed the series over the years, and welcome to those who are just discovering it. Seeing it become a fall tradition has been amazing. Thank you again, and I hope you all have a wonderful autumn.
