For decades, Cartoon Network has been a home to popular animated series, but it also frequently airs shows that first appeared elsewhere. That’s true for the Scooby-Doo franchise, which has been a regular part of the channel’s lineup. Now, Cartoon Network is creating new Scooby-Doo stories, and a classic installment from the original Hanna-Barbera series is returning after a long hiatus – it hasn’t been shown since 2009! Get excited, Scooby fans, because we’re going back to the beginning with the Mystery Machine crew.
The original A Pup Named Scooby-Doo series debuted in 1988, showing Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma as young kids solving mysteries. It last aired on Cartoon Network in 2009, meaning it’s been about fifteen years since it was on the channel. Now, to celebrate Presidents’ Day, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo is coming back to Cartoon Network on February 16th at 10:30 AM Eastern. It’s currently unknown whether this is a temporary return or if the show will continue to air on the network.
Scooby-Doo’s Cartoon Future

Don’t expect a reboot of the classic A Pup Named Scooby-Doo anytime soon. Although many older cartoons are being revived, the Scooby-Doo franchise already has new content planned. Reports indicate Cartoon Network is developing an anime-inspired series where Scooby and Shaggy travel to Japan to face unique monsters.
The animated series Scooby Doo, Go Go Mystery Machine will bring the Scooby Gang to Japan, but that’s not the only anime-style project in development. Warner Bros. also confirmed a new anime series centered around Shaggy and Scooby, titled Scooby-Doo Gokko, is planned for release in 2027. Similar to Tom & Jerry Gokko, this series will feature a more adorable and charming take on the characters.
Cartoon Network has been actively reviving older shows, as seen with the recent ‘Checkered Past’ programming block. This block, which started last December, has brought back original series like Cow & Chicken, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Johnny Bravo. Even though ‘Checkered Past’ was temporarily canceled, Cartoon Network still plans to continue airing it in the future.
