Hideo Kojima dedicated much of 2025 to promoting Death Stranding 2: On the Beach with a global tour. However, he’ll be staying closer to home this year as he begins serious work on his new spy thriller, PHYSINT.
The new PlayStation 5 game from Kojima Productions – intended to be a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear Solid franchise – revealed its first concept art last year. The studio has been hiring more staff to support development of this large-scale project, and Sony Pictures Entertainment is also collaborating on it.
Hideo Kojima recently explained that the actors’ strike with SAG-AFTRA, which focused on getting fair pay, caused delays in choosing the voice cast for the game.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the experienced performer announced he’ll start recording his performance and scanning stars in preparation for the game’s release this year.
Further in the message, he said:
This year, I’m celebrating 40 years working in the game industry, starting back in 1986 when I first began making games. Thank you for all your ongoing support of both me and Kojima Productions. I’m excited for what the next year brings!
Although PHYSINT isn’t expected to be released for several years, the developers have given us a sneak peek by sharing initial scans of actress Minami Hamabe, who will be included in the game.
I remember reading that Hideo Kojima once felt Asian skin tones were too complex to realistically show in games, but seeing Hamabe cast in the new project? It definitely feels like they’ve leveled up their tech and can finally do it justice. It’s a cool sign of progress, honestly.
It’s currently unknown if the team will use Guerrilla’s Decima Engine again, but they visited the studio late last year, suggesting it’s a possibility that PHYSINT could benefit from the technology behind the Horizon games.
