Thanks to the huge success of Stranger Things, its actors have become globally recognized stars, and they’d be a great fit for roles in the new DC Universe. Since its debut in 2016, the show has become a major cultural phenomenon and one of Netflix’s biggest hits. With the recent conclusion of its fifth season, Stranger Things has closed a significant chapter for both its viewers and the cast. The show’s stars are now enjoying widespread fame and have many new opportunities opening up in their acting careers.
As a huge fan of both Stranger Things and DC, I’ve been thinking about how perfectly the cast could fit into James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe! We’ve already seen some of them pop up in superhero projects, but DC still has so many iconic roles to fill. Honestly, I think every single one of the Stranger Things main cast could nail a DC character. I’ve put together my thoughts on who would be the best fit for each of them – it’s a pretty exciting thought!
13) Natalia Dyer as Batgirl

Natalia Dyer has proven her ability to transform characters, taking Nancy Wheeler from a shy teenager in Stranger Things to a capable action hero. This range makes her a strong candidate to play Batgirl in the DC Universe. Given that Batgirl hasn’t been well-served by past DC films, Dyer could truly shine in the role, as she physically fits the part and is capable of portraying the character with real emotional complexity.
12) Finn Wolfhard as Nightwing

Finn Wolfhard, known for his role as Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things, has demonstrated his acting skills and could be a great fit for the DC Universe. He’d be particularly well-suited to play Nightwing. His physical build – tall and lean with dark hair – matches the character’s look, and his experience playing a character with strong values in Stranger Things proves he can handle the role.
11) Winona Ryder as Hippolyta

Winona Ryder is a well-known actress from the 1980s, and her role as Joyce Byers in Stranger Things adds to a career filled with memorable performances. If the new DC Universe needs someone to play Queen Hippolyta – Wonder Woman’s mother and the Amazonian queen – Ryder would be an excellent choice. She’s already proven in Stranger Things that she can portray a powerful mother figure, and she physically resembles the comic book version of Hippolyta.
10) Charlie Heaton as Scarecrow

While there isn’t an obvious DC character that Charlie Heaton’s Jonathan Byers from Stranger Things fits, there’s a risk he could become known for playing caring older brother types. That’s why his first role in the DC Universe should be something completely different. He’d be fantastic as the Scarecrow in a future Batman project, and playing a villain could help audiences see his range as an actor.
9) Millie Bobby Brown as Raven

Millie Bobby Brown quickly became a household name after starring as Eleven in Stranger Things. Landing her a major role in the DC Universe would be a huge win for the franchise, and many believe Raven would be an ideal character for her. Raven hasn’t been portrayed often in live-action, giving Brown the opportunity to define the role, and she’s already proven she can convincingly play characters with superpowers.
8) Caleb McLaughlin as Static

A widely circulated fan casting suggestion envisions Caleb McLaughlin, known for his role in Stranger Things, as Static. McLaughlin possesses the talent and physique to play the character well, but he’s growing older, potentially making it less believable for him to portray a teenage hero. If DC decides to use this popular casting choice, they’ll need to act quickly, or they might need to adjust Static’s age slightly to fit McLaughlin.
7) Noah Schnapp as Tim Drake

Many fans consider Tim Drake to be the best Robin in DC Comics, and he’s a key character in the universe. Noah Schnapp, who played Will Byers in Stranger Things, has qualities that would make him a good fit for Tim Drake. Schnapp also physically resembles the character, making him a natural choice if DC decides to cast actors from Stranger Things in its new universe.
6) Sadie Sink as Starfire

Sadie Sink has been cast in the upcoming Marvel movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which means she’s already connected to a major superhero universe. Despite this, many believe she would be an excellent choice for the role of Starfire in the DC Universe. While she’s shown impressive dramatic skills playing Max on Stranger Things, Starfire could allow her to showcase a lighter side. Sink naturally has the right look for the character, and her work on Stranger Things proves she can handle action-packed scenes with a lot of visual effects.
5) Gaten Matarazzo as Beast Boy

Gaten Matarazzo quickly became a fan favorite on Stranger Things, with his character Dustin Henderson being a key part of the show for all five seasons. Finding the right role for him in the DC Universe is tricky, because he needs a part that truly showcases his endearing personality and playful energy. Many fans believe Beast Boy would be an ideal fit for Matarazzo, and the character seems to suit him well – it’s already a popular choice among those imagining him in the DCU.
4) Maya Hawke as Poison Ivy

Maya Hawke became incredibly popular after playing Robin in Stranger Things, and she’s quickly gaining as much recognition as her famous parents. Finding the right role for her in the DC Universe is challenging because there aren’t many well-developed female characters that would truly showcase her abilities. While Poison Ivy isn’t considered one of Batman’s most iconic villains, the fact that Hawke’s mother previously played the character makes her the perfect choice to take on the role. Hawke could revitalize Poison Ivy, and it would allow her to explore a darker, more villainous side compared to her character in Stranger Things.
3) Jamie Campbell Bower as the Joker

Jamie Campbell Bower is a popular fan choice for the DCU’s Joker. He gained recognition for playing the villain Vecna in Stranger Things, and many believe he’s perfectly suited for the role of the Joker due to his appearance and proven ability to portray convincingly sinister characters.
2) David Harbour as Commissioner Gordon

David Harbour became a well-known actor thanks to his role in Stranger Things, making it likely he could join the new DC Universe. He’d be a great fit for Commissioner James Gordon, Batman’s close ally and contact within the Gotham City Police Department. Harbour already looks the part and has experience playing a police officer, as seen in Stranger Things.
1) Joe Keery as Plastic Man

I’ve always loved Joe Keery as Steve in Stranger Things, and honestly, he’s become a real fan favorite. If the DCU is looking for someone to play a superhero, I think he’d be amazing as Plastic Man. That character’s playful, funny vibe would totally suit Keery’s quick wit and natural charisma. He just seems like a guy who’d shine in a lighter, more humorous role, and Plastic Man feels like the perfect fit for him.
