Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Won’t be the Only New Entry in the Franchise, Says Konami

Konami, working with developers Evil Empire and Motion Twin, recently released a brand new Castlevania game called Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse – the first in several years. And they aren’t stopping there! To celebrate the Castlevania franchise’s 40th anniversary, Konami announced on the game’s website that more Castlevania games are on the way, stating that “the doors of Castlevania open once more.”

I was so excited to hear about Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse coming back! But the best part of the announcement is that Konami said this is just the start. They’re celebrating working with Motion Twin and Evil Empire, but they also hinted that there’s a lot more Castlevania content on the way, which is amazing! It sounds like we’re going to get even more games and projects, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Konami announced on their website that this year is the 40th anniversary of the first Akumajō Dracula game. To celebrate, they’re bringing back the Castlevania series.

Let’s start with the game: Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. We knew there was no better team to partner with than Evil Empire and Motion Twin – two studios known for their skill and dedication. Together, we’re creating a new 2D action game that stays true to the spirit of Castlevania while also introducing exciting new ideas.

We’re excited to announce a range of new products inspired by Castlevania. Get ready to experience the return of the iconic and terrifying darkness that defines the series.

During a recent State of Play presentation, a trailer revealed the new game Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Players will take control of a young Trevor Belmont as he wields the legendary Belmont family whip, the Vampire Killer, to battle undead creatures in Paris. The game is set in 1499 and centers around a monstrous invasion of the city.

Given Motion Twin and Evil Empire’s history with games like Dead Cells, it’s no surprise this new game will offer a variety of weapons beyond the classic Vampire Killer. The trailer showed Trevor fighting with a sword, and the whip isn’t just for combat – it also lets him swing across large spaces to get around.

Okay, so if you’re a fan of games like Symphony of the Night, you’ll be right at home with Belmont’s Curse. It’s got that same Metroidvania style – meaning the levels are huge and interconnected, and packed with secrets you’ll have to explore to find. Just like in the old Castlevania games, I can also break certain walls to uncover hidden health items, which is always a nice bonus!

The trailer effectively highlighted the game’s fresh art style. Konami calls it a vibrant look that still honors the classic, gothic feel of the Castlevania series.

Konami is bringing Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet. If you’re eager to play something Castlevaniarelated now, there are several options: the Ode to Castlevania DLC for Vampire Survivors, the Return to Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells, and the Legacy of Castlevania DLC for V Rising*.
