The announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was a major highlight of The Game Awards. The game is being developed by Arcanaut Studios, led by Casey Hudson – the original director of Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series. It’s designed as a spiritual successor to KOTOR, promising player choices, engaging battles, and a full single-player RPG experience within the Star Wars galaxy.
Loki’s journey towards redemption is particularly compelling within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially considering his initially selfish and uncaring behavior in Thor and The Avengers. A memorable line from The Avengers actually mirrors the path of another well-known character who also finds redemption in a classic fantasy story. Both characters begin as arrogant and indifferent, even sharing the same words when speaking to those who try to guide them. While they follow similar routes, I’m optimistic that the new versions of Loki we’re seeing will ultimately have a more positive outcome.

I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz online this week about the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, and it sounds like it’s going to be bigger than we thought! The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed the rumor that we won’t be getting just one trailer, but four different ones. Apparently, each trailer will play before Avatar: Fire and Ash for a week, so we’ll see a new one each week for a month. That means if we want to catch all four trailers, we’re going to have to go see Avatar a few times when it hits theaters on December 19th. I’m already planning my trips!
These films didn’t receive the awards recognition they deserved, and haven’t gained a much wider audience over time, despite being worthy of both.
The villains in the Absolute universe are more powerful and brutal than their regular versions. They’ve been deliberately changed to highlight the strengths of the Absolute heroes. A great example is the Absolute Joker, who isn’t just a force of chaos, but a ruler who imposed order through violence. Issue #15 of Absolute Batman explored the Joker’s backstory and his nature, creating a frightening portrayal of Batman’s enemy and revisiting an interesting, previously unused idea from Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Ian Tuason will direct the next Paranormal Activity movie, a project from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse. Tuason is a Canadian director known for his successful horror shorts in live-action virtual reality – they’ve gained millions of views on YouTube and were even featured at SXSW. He recently won the audience award at the Fantasia International Film Festival for his film The Undertone, which sparked a bidding war ultimately won by A24.
