He explained, “I made some subtle changes, distancing from aspects that seemed too much like a man in a costume.” His goal was to make it more insect-like and unsettling. For him, what’s truly unnerving isn’t sharp teeth but flat ones because they would cause pain – which gives the smile an eerie human quality that feels disconcerting.
