The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is An Amusing Sequel (And an Improvement) [Review]

Now, with the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, we have a sequel that takes a completely different approach than the first film, which was a massive success. The 2023 movie heavily relied on established story details, hidden references, and appearances from other Nintendo characters and franchises. This proved that a film could be vastly different from the 1993 movie in terms of respecting the source material, yet still fall short. While The Super Mario Galaxy Movie doesn’t drastically change course from the first one, it does seem to learn from its predecessor’s mistakes—though it makes some new ones of its own.

Sega Genesis Exclusive Is Finally Getting a New Sequel After Over 35 Years

I was so excited to hear the news this week! Clear River Games announced they’re making a new Truxton game called Truxton Extreme! For those who don’t know, Truxton is a classic vertical-scrolling shooter that first hit arcades in Japan way back in 1988. It was ported to the Sega Genesis in 1989, and that was the only time it ever came to a home console. There was a sequel, Truxton 2, in arcades in 1992, but it never made it home. The series has been quiet ever since… until now! I can’t wait to play it!

Legacy of Kain: Ascendance Is A Clever Idea That Stumbles When It Should Soar (Review)

As a big fan of Legacy of Kain, I was really intrigued by Ascendance. It’s basically a fresh take on the series’ backstory, and it’s cool how they went with a retro, *Castlevaniastyle side-scroller instead of the 3D adventures we were used to. Honestly, the art and music are fantastic and really capture the atmosphere. But, unfortunately, some core issues with how the game plays hold it back from being truly great. It feels like it had so much potential, but just couldn’t quite reach it.

The Only Stephen King Movie To Ever Win an Oscar Is Leaving Netflix in Less Than 24 Hours

Rob Reiner’s classic 1990 film, Misery, will be leaving Netflix after a short run. It arrived on the platform March 1st and is scheduled to be removed on April 1st. Based on Stephen King’s 1987 novel, Misery is considered one of the best adaptations of his work, and it’s the only one to have won an Academy Award. Kathy Bates took home the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance as Annie Wilkes, a disturbing and obsessive former nurse who kidnaps her favorite author, Paul Sheldon, and forces him to rewrite his book. Bates also won a Golden Globe for the role, and the film received nominations for Saturn Awards in categories like Best Horror Film and Best Writing, though it didn’t win those awards.
