Following the cancellation of the planned Avatar: The Last Airbender roleplaying game, voice actor Mako Iwamatsu (known as Uncle Iroh) shared a blunt opinion on social media. He explained that, at 65, he feels comfortable speaking frankly, and having worked in the entertainment industry for three decades, he’s seen firsthand how studio executives often lack creative vision. However, he believes the current leadership at Paramount is actively harmful, stating they have no appreciation for the themes of grace, redemption, and anti-fascism that are central to Avatar. He feels they simply don’t understand or value the franchise. While Iroh’s role in the upcoming Avatar sequel hasn’t been confirmed, he’s been a beloved character throughout the series, even appearing in The Legend of Korra.
