The Netflix series Wednesday follows Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams while she attends Nevermore Academy. There, she works to develop her psychic powers, stop a series of murders, and uncover a long-standing mystery surrounding her parents. The show also stars Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, Fred Armisen, and others.
While many lesser-known heroes haven’t gotten their due, Bernhard Baker, or Animal Man, truly deserves a chance to shine. Though he’s historically been a relatively obscure character, excellent comic book storylines by writers like Grant Morrison and Jeff Lemire have elevated Animal Man, making him ripe for a fantastic adaptation.
As a huge cinema fan, I was really intrigued by the 2019 Watchmen series, especially knowing it built on the world of the classic comic and Zack Snyder’s movie. It was a bold move, and honestly, a bit confusing at times, running for just nine episodes. Even though it still has a fantastic 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems to have faded from people’s memories pretty quickly after it finished. I think it’s a seriously underrated show, and if you don’t see what made the HBO series so brilliant, you might be missing the point!
The season one finale includes a quiet but important surprise: Red, the witty sex worker who repeatedly encounters Ser Duncan, ends up marrying Ser Raymun Fossoway. This reveals she will eventually become Lady Rowan Fossoway and the ancestor who starts the Green Apple Fossoway family line. According to the creator, much of this story happens outside of what viewers actually see, and that was intentional.
As a huge fan of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ I was really intrigued by Sam Spruell’s take on Egg’s decision in the finale. He shed some light on why Egg felt he had to lie about getting his father’s permission to ride off with Ser Duncan the Tall – it really made the moment make so much more sense!
The movie Pearl Harbor tells the story of the surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. Before the attack, America was not involved in World War II, but the raid led to the U.S. declaring war on Japan the following day. The film also includes a romantic subplot about two childhood friends, both pilots, who fall for the same nurse, a storyline that wasn’t well-received by critics like Roger Ebert.
During the All-Worlds Day celebrations, Darem Reymi was unexpectedly taken to the Khionian Sunset Moon for his wedding to Kaira (Jaelynn Thora Brooks). Jay-Den Kraag (Karim Diané), who followed Darem, ended up as his best man. Jay-Den quickly realizes that Darem is fulfilling his obligation to Khionia, even though he secretly dreams of attending Starfleet Academy.
I’m really excited about the new Daredevil: Born Again series! I was reading an interview with one of the show’s writers, Dario Scardapane, and he actually admitted he’d love to see crossovers with other big MCU heroes. But, sadly, he said it probably won’t happen, even though he’s a huge Marvel comics fan. He described figuring out how to tell the story without those crossovers as a really interesting challenge, which honestly makes me even more hyped to see what they come up with!
In the sixth episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a title card flashed briefly, jokingly referring to “A Knight of the Nine Kingdoms.” Ira Parker, the show’s co-creator and showrunner, explained to Variety that it was a playful mistake. He said the gag was based on a genuine plot point: by that time in the story, there are indeed nine kingdoms.
