Calling something ‘like an Adam Sandler movie’ brings to mind a wide range of possibilities – from silly comedies to intense dramas and heartwarming family films. However, Noah Baumbach’s critically acclaimed Jay Kelly, coming to Netflix in 2025, stands out. While lavish and over-the-top, it feels much more grounded in reality than many of Sandler’s films, offering a surprisingly bleak and honest portrayal.

Michael Gracey, the director of Tangled, recently started following Freya Skye, a star from Zombies 4, on Instagram. This has sparked rumors that Skye might be Disney’s pick to play Rapunzel in the upcoming live-action remake of the animated film Tangled. Although Disney hasn’t officially announced any casting decisions yet, the connection has fans speculating.

Clint Eastwood disliked traditional, purely heroic characters and actively avoided playing them, even as he rose to fame as a leading star in Western films during the 1960s and 70s. The complex, morally ambiguous characters he popularized weren’t entirely new to the genre, but he perfected their use, and this approach has become even more common in Westerns since his peak years.

Okay, so I just heard the latest on the Marvel front – they’re still working on ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ right now, which is exciting! The Russo brothers are directing, and it’s set to hit US theaters in just over a year. And get this – they’re already planning ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ to follow up in December 2027. It’s going to be a long wait, but I’m already hyped!

When Disney took over Star Wars, it wasn’t just the show that changed – they basically hit the reset button on a lot of stories! They decided a bunch of books, comics, and other stuff weren’t official anymore. Since then, they’ve been adding new stories, sometimes similar to the old ones, but often quite different. Luckily, everything they removed is still around under the name Star Wars Legends, so if you’re like me and loved the old expanded universe, you can still enjoy it!

Everyone is continuing with their normal plans for providing entertainment. For Netflix, that means releasing its usual lineup of new shows and movies this week, including both original content and titles they’ve licensed. Interestingly, one new arrival on the platform hasn’t received much promotion, despite the already large number of options available.

As a huge movie and TV fan, I’ve been following the new Batman universe closely. While Killer Frost isn’t traditionally one of Batman’s main rogues, she’s seriously powerful – those ice powers are no joke! It’s unclear if James Gunn has plans for her in the bigger DC Universe he’s building, but I’m really enjoying her role in the new animated series. It’s great to see her get some well-deserved attention right now.

I was really excited to read that Giancarlo Esposito is planning to bring his graphic novel, The Venetian (which he created with Matt Wheeler and Jay Martin), to life on screen! He also mentioned he’s nearly closed a deal to work with Guy Busick on a project based on Stephen King’s new novella, The Dreamers. It sounds like he has some amazing things in the works, and I can’t wait to see what he does with both of these stories.

2023 marked a turning point for Pamela Anderson, as she openly shared her story with the Netflix documentary, Pamela, A Love Story, and her memoir, Love, Pamela. So, it was a pleasant surprise – especially given how private she’d been about her personal life – to hear rumors during promotion for the new Naked Gun movie that she was dating her co-star, Liam Neeson, of V.I.P. fame.

The Old West was a wild and transformative place, full of danger and opportunity. This backdrop has always inspired compelling stories – from tragic tales of gunslingers to thrilling revenge quests. Like all great stories, Westerns need satisfying endings that stay with the audience, and some films achieve this far more effectively than others.
