Lazarus Review: Prime Video’s New Gothic Mystery Proves Harlan Coben Is Still Untouchable

Harlan Coben teamed up once again with Danny Brocklehurst to create Lazarus, a suspenseful limited series that delivers everything fans love about Coben’s stories. Set in a uniquely atmospheric location in England, the show centers on forensic psychologist Joel “Laz” Lazarus (played brilliantly by Sam Claflin) and his consuming investigation into his father’s unexpected death. As he digs deeper, he begins to suspect a connection to another family tragedy from the past. Lazarus is a chilling and visually dark series with hints of the supernatural, balanced by moments of engaging relationship drama. It’s an easy-to-watch thriller that explores the psychological effects of grief and raises questions about the power dynamics between mental health professionals and their patients.

After 41 Years, This Horror Icon Is Still The Most Terrifying Villain to Haunt the 1980s

Wes Craven, a master of horror, wrote and directed A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film initially received an R rating after two edits due to its intense and frightening content. Even after those changes, the final version remains disturbing, from the eerie childhood rhyme (“1, 2, Freddy’s coming for you. 3, 4, better lock your door”) to the unsettling visuals and violent scenes. The core idea and the terrifying character of Freddy Krueger still feel incredibly frightening after 41 years.

39 Years Later, This Beloved MCU Star’s Debut Horror Still Disturbs Viewers

Michael Rooker and James Gunn first worked together on Gunn’s 2006 horror film, Slither. So, it’s interesting that Rooker also appeared in the much grimmer Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, which premiered at a film festival in 1986. Co-written by Richard Fire and directed by John McNaughton, Henry struggled to find distribution despite the popularity of violent movies at the time. The original movie poster, painted by Joe Coleman, was even rejected for being too disturbing for marketing purposes. While inspired by real events, the film’s story is unique among serial killer narratives. Released around the time FBI profiling of serial killers was just beginning, Henry almost feels like a commentary on that new investigative technique. Despite not being entirely realistic, the film’s power comes from the chilling possibility that someone like Henry could actually exist—a testament to Michael Rooker’s acting ability.
