After seven years away, Catherine Tyldesley is coming back to Coronation Street! She’ll be reprising her role as Eva Price, and this time she’s running the Rovers Return pub.
She’ll be accompanied by her new husband, Ben, played by Aaron McCusker, as well as her spirited daughter Susie, portrayed by Aurora Bradshaw. Joining them are Ben’s sons, Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike), and his mother, Maggie, played by Pauline McLynn.
This marks a fresh start for the ITV soap, but Catherine felt nostalgic as she discussed the legendary Coronation Street actors who influenced her portrayal of Eva.
What prompted you to leave Corrie back in 2018?
I really value trying different approaches to acting. It’s essential for any performer who wants to improve and grow. I feel fortunate to have consistently had work opportunities.
Who is your favourite past landlady of the Rovers and why?
Honestly, I think every woman on that show was fantastic and brought something special. But if I had to pick, Annie Walker, played by Doris Speed, and Bet Lynch, with Julie Goodyear, really stand out to me. I’m a big fan of the classic Coronation Street episodes, and they just captured a certain magic.
I’ve always admired strong women, and my family is full of examples of them. That’s a major reason why I decided to come back.

Who is your ‘Corrie acting idol’ – someone in the cast past or present who has inspired you?
It’s hard to pick just one, but Hayley Cropper, portrayed by Julie Hesmondhalgh, and Raquel Wolstenhulme, played by Sarah Lancashire, really stood out to me.
What was your favourite Eva storyline from your first stint and why?
Maria absolutely had to push me into the fountain! We had a blast filming those scenes. Samia Longchambon and I are really good friends, and we were laughing constantly between takes.
If you could play another character who would it be and why?
Roy (David Neilson)… I LOVE bacon baps!
How would you sum up the next few months for the Driscolls?
Fun, filled with love, laughter, quick wit and oodles of drama!

Can you tell us about your creative partnership with Jodie Prenger – you’ve written together?
Stay tuned! Jodie and I are working on a few exciting projects, but I don’t want to say too much just yet – wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise! Jodie is incredibly talented, and it’s wonderful collaborating with her.
