CBS Evening News Left Without An Anchor After Maurice DuBois Exits

I was really surprised to hear that Maurice DuBois is leaving CBS Evening News after 21 years! It’s sad to see him go, and I’ve read they might not even be replacing him, which would be a huge loss for the show. He’s been a familiar face for so long!

The news anchor announced on Instagram that December 18, 2025, will be his final day hosting the CBS Evening News. Although his departure was unexpected, DuBois expressed only positive feelings about his time at the network. He thanked viewers for their support over more than twenty years, and shared his gratitude for the amazing people he met while working on the show, describing the experience as an “Honor of a Lifetime.”

After 21 wonderful years – including my time at WCBS-TV in New York – December 18th will be my last day reporting for CBS News. It’s been an incredible honor. I’m so grateful for the chance to have shared the news and met so many amazing people, and I’ll always cherish the relationships and memories I’ve made. I’ll continue delivering the CBS Evening News at 6:30 PM each night for the next couple of weeks, and I hope to see you then!

The announcement from DuBois comes after John Dickerson left in October. Both journalists will be gone from CBS Evening News by the end of the year. As of today, CBS hasn’t said who will replace them, raising the possibility the show might be without an anchor in January. However, CBS may already have replacements chosen but hasn’t made a public announcement yet.

I was really moved by what Tom Cibrowski, the head at CBS News, had to say about DuBois over at CNN. He just raved about DuBois’ dedication and skill as a journalist, calling him a huge part of the CBS family. It sounded like everyone there truly valued him, and Cibrowski said he’s wishing him all the best – and even hopes they can collaborate again down the line. It’s nice to hear such genuine appreciation.

I’m hearing from Cibrowski that we’ll find out more about what’s happening with the CBS Evening News pretty soon. Honestly, it sounds like they’ve probably already picked someone new, or are at least really close to making a decision!

We all greatly appreciate Maurice as a journalist and wish him the best in his future endeavors. We hope to collaborate with him again, and we’ll share more information about the future of CBS Evening News soon.

The CBS Evening News broadcasts nightly at 6:30 PM. The current anchor, DuBois, will step down on December 18, 2025, followed by Dickerson on December 31, 2025.
