CBS’ FBI Is Shaking Up The Cast For Season 8, And I Flashed Back To What Zeeko Zaki Said He’d ‘Love To See’ For OA

As we approach the final weeks before FBI returns to CBS for Season 8 in the 2025 TV lineup, it’s exciting to note that our favorite series will still be airing, having survived cancellations. Furthermore, some changes in the cast are expected to bring fresh dynamics. Recently, a rerun of a captivating episode from Season 7 titled “Détente” was broadcast, which resonated with me as it featured an intriguing storyline for OA, reminding me of a conversation I had with Zeeko Zaki regarding this plot, its emotional conclusion, and his hopes for more engaging stories in the future involving his co-stars.

At present, it’s official that Emily Alabi is leaving her role as Agent Dani Rhodes, even though she demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the team in the Season 7 finale. You can catch up on the finale with a Paramount+ subscription at this moment. Alabi had been trying to fill the void left by Katherine Renee Kane’s character, Agent Tiffany Wallace, on the FBI series, and the new candidate is Juliana Aidén Martinez from Law & Order: SVU, who will be joining as a fresh agent. It remains uncertain if Alana De La Garza will return full-time following Isobel’s dramatic life-or-death situation in the fall, but I remain hopeful about seeing Isobel again in her SAC role.

How about this rephrasing: Regarding OA (also known as Maggie), I must say that my favorite partnerships on primetime TV include OA. A recent backstage joke suggests that Zeeko Zaki and Missy Peregrym, who play together in their eighth season, continue to have a great rapport. In the seventh season, Zaki’s character was involved in some intriguing storylines, especially during the train crisis in the spring which allowed him to channel his inner action hero.

I hope this version maintains the original meaning while being more natural and easy to read!

On August 30, CBS repeated the third episode from Season 7’s storyline. In this episode, OPA interacts with an Army buddy, portrayed by Guy Lockard from “Chicago Med.” This character was somewhat suspicious in the current story. Watching this re-run brought back memories of what Zeeko Zaki shared with me following the finale of the arc, where OA had to eliminate Clay.

I previously discussed with the FBI star in December about whether OA stands on the right or wrong side of things. His upcoming rerun in August, close to the Season 8 premiere, reminds me of his wishes for OA and the friendship between OA and Maggie. This topic remains significant as we approach Season 8 starting in October, since he had mentioned back then:

I’m eager to revisit the POW [story] and military aspects, as well as explore the friendship theme. It seems fitting for both Maggie and me to have a moment to discuss our respective friends – Jess and Clay, respectively – and the intense experience of losing a friend, regardless of where they stood on the line. I believe this topic would make for an engaging conversation.

After our conversation about OA’s storyline with Clay in the latter part of Season 7, I remain eager to discover more about OA’s history before the series began and deepen my understanding of her friendship with Maggie. Among all the relationships on the show, none are as deeply intertwined as theirs, even surpassing the professional dynamic between Jubal and Isobel (who, at the time of writing, has an uncertain future). Following the midseason finale, Zaki revealed that OA considers Maggie a trusted confidante.

It seems that his relationship is revealing some interesting aspects, with Gemma being the first one I shared about the POW, which makes it intriguing to explore further and understand where OA turns during tough times. Maggie is his constant support, and I hope she remains so. I particularly cherish those moments when we delve into the emotional aspects of our characters’ lives.

It’s great news that Gemma made it through the train incident in Season 7, which means we can expect to see her again in Season 8. And I’m really looking forward to seeing more of Maggie and OA this fall! As for FBI, let’s hope they delve deeper into OA’s past as the season goes on.

The FBI series moves to a new timeslot on CBS for its eighth season, following the cancellations of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. Don’t miss the premiere on Monday, October 13 at 9 p.m. ET, before Watson Season 2, or catch up the next day on Paramount+.
