Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the first episode of Boston Blue. Less than a year after Blue Bloods ended, CBS has launched a spin-off series, Boston Blue, which quietly addresses a major criticism of the original show’s finale. Blue Bloods was a popular show for over ten years, so its cancellation was difficult for fans. The decision wasn’t due to low ratings; rather, CBS was cutting costs, leading to the end of other shows like So Help Me Todd! and NCIS: Hawai’i as well.
Despite the continued popularity of Blue Bloods, especially on streaming, CBS is launching a spinoff series. The new show, Boston Blue, follows Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, and his son Sean as they relocate to Boston. While leaving his family and Frank behind in New York is difficult, it opens the door for a fresh storyline.
Erin Wears A Wedding Ring In Boston Blue Episode 1
I was immediately hooked by the beginning of Boston Blue – the way Sean almost died in a fire was so intense! It really drove Danny to make a huge life change, moving north to be there for his son, and I loved that dedication. While the Silver family seemed like they could be a great addition to the story, almost a perfect replacement for the Reagans, there was something truly heartwarming about watching Erin decide to join her brother in Boston. It just felt special.
As a big fan of both shows, I was really excited to see Erin on Boston Blue! It’s cool because she’s the first Reagan besides Danny and Sean to pop up over there, and with Boston being so close to New York, it opens the door for more cameos, which would be amazing. But honestly, what I loved most about Erin’s appearance was how it quietly fixed something that bothered me about Blue Bloods‘ ending. They never showed us Erin and Jack getting back together with Frank and the family knowing, and this little moment felt like a sweet way to give us that closure!
When Erin returns in Boston Blue, she’s wearing a wedding ring, which confirms that she and Jack have gotten back together and told the Reagans between the end of that episode and the start of the spinoff show. Given that Jack is a police officer, about a year and a half has passed since the New York storyline ended – enough time for a wedding. It’s disappointing that this happened without us seeing it on screen.
Why Erin & Jack Boyle Didn’t Share Their Marriage News In The Blue Bloods Finale
After a tough day keeping the city safe, the Reagans were relieved everyone made it through unharmed. Just as Erin and Jack were about to share their plans to remarry, they were interrupted by exciting news: Jamie and Eddie are going to have a baby!
Everyone immediately focused on the news. Danny attempted to ask Erin about her own big news, but she and Jack chose to wait, wanting Jamie and Eddie to have their special moment. Since this was the last episode of Blue Bloods, they never revealed it during the show. It’s possible a future flashback set in Boston could show how that conversation unfolded.
