Up-and-coming actor Lenny Rush will star alongside a talented cast in the new BBC sitcom, The Reluctant Vampire. The show is expected to have a similar comedic style to the popular series Ghosts.
The rising star of Am I Being Unreasonable? will star as Val in the upcoming series. Val is a teenager who grows up believing his family are vampires, only to unexpectedly learn he isn’t one of them.
That would explain why “bloodthirsty rites of passage” have never been his strong suit.
His mother, Valeeta (played by Sian Clifford from Fleabag), hid the truth about who he really is to protect him. Now, she and her son must team up to keep his secret from his very old-fashioned vampire father, Victor (Tom Davis from King Gary).
Besides Clifford and Davis, “The Reluctant Vampire” also brings back Ellie-May Sheridan, who previously worked with Rush on the CBBC show “Dodger.” In this series, she plays a friendly girl who becomes friends with Val after discovering he’s not like other vampires.
The show also features a talented group of well-known actors, such as Charlie Cooper from “This Country,” Asim Chaudhry from “People Just Do Nothing,” Joe Wilkinson from “Celebrity Traitors,” and Kiell Smith-Bynoe from “Ghosts.”
The cast includes Esther Smith, known from “Trying,” Bill Bailey from “Black Books,” and Ray Fearon of “Not Going Out.” Joining them is Gabriel Nagy, a new face on screen, playing Val’s mysterious brother.

I’m completely hooked on this story! Apparently, Val has a huge secret he absolutely can’t let anyone in town find out. But when night falls, the pressure is on – everyone expects so much of him. It sounds like he’s constantly walking a tightrope, trying to balance these two lives without getting exposed. It’s going to be intense seeing if he can pull it off!
Rush expressed excitement about the cast, saying, “I’m incredibly happy to be working with such a talented group of comedic actors. They’re truly a dream team – if vampires had one, this would be it!”
The comedy series, The Reluctant Vampire, also boasts a talented writing team: Neil and Rob Gibbons, known for their work on the Alan Partridge shows like Mid Morning Matters, This Time, and How Are You?, are the co-creators.

According to executive producer Shane Allen, this new show features vampires, ghosts, werewolves, and gargoyles, aiming to bring the same lighthearted humor as ‘Ghosts’ to a family audience.
We’re thrilled with the reaction to Neil and Rob’s scripts – some of the UK’s best comedians are eager to be involved.
I’m so excited for ‘The Reluctant Vampire’! It’s going to be six episodes, each about thirty minutes long. We’re still waiting to find out when it will actually premiere, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed it’s soon!
The Reluctant Vampire is coming soon to BBC One and iPlayer.
