The most popular TV shows in Britain for 2025 have been announced, and it was a great year for viewers of The Traitors, as well as fans of Claudia Winkleman and Celia Imrie.
The final episode of The Celebrity Traitors was the most-watched program of the year so far, drawing in a massive 15.4 million viewers, according to official ratings data from Barb.
Siobhan Imrie, a key player in the popular series, appeared on the year’s most-watched list not once, but twice. In addition to her work on the show, she starred in the Netflix film The Thursday Murder Club, which attracted 10 million viewers in its first 28 days.
Besides the top show, other popular broadcasts included the New Year’s Eve Fireworks at number two (13.3 million viewers), the first episode of ‘Adolescence’ in third with 13.2 million, and the premiere of last year’s ‘Traitors’ series, which landed in fourth place with 10.8 million viewers.

The top ten was completed by three more popular programs: the Gavin & Stacey documentary ‘A Fond Farewell’ took eighth place with 8.7 million viewers, the premiere of ‘Race Across The World’ season 5 was ninth with 8.3 million, and the first episode of ‘Unforgotten’ season 6 rounded out the list at number ten with 8.1 million viewers.
We don’t have complete viewership numbers for the entire year yet; those won’t be ready until late January.

As a huge fan of The Traitors, I was thrilled to see the new season kick off with a bang! The premiere episode pulled in an average of 6.4 million viewers overnight, which is a fantastic start – significantly more than tuned in for the beginning of season three. It’s great to see so much interest in the show!
The first episode of The Night Manager season 2, a highly anticipated BBC One drama set to premiere in 2026, attracted an average of 3.3 million overnight viewers.

As a critic, I’ve been following James Hibbs’ work at TopMob for a while now, and he clearly knows his stuff. He covers everything – from the latest streaming hits to traditional TV – and brings a well-rounded perspective. Before getting into writing about drama, he actually spent time in PR, both for a business-focused agency and the international production giant, Fremantle. That background probably helps him understand the industry from all angles. He’s got a solid academic foundation too, with a BA in English and Theatre Studies, plus a professional journalism qualification – an NCTJ Level 5 Diploma. It all adds up to a really informed and insightful voice.
