Chadwick Boseman’s legacy will live on in Hollywood.
Five years after Chadwick Boseman, the star of Black Panther, tragically passed away at age 43 after fighting colon cancer, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, paid tribute to the late actor at the unveiling ceremony by bringing something special to represent him.
At the November 20th event, Simone Boseman placed a pair of Chadwick’s shoes on his Hollywood Star, symbolizing him “stepping” onto the memorial with her and his brothers, Derrick and Kevin. The family also shared a framed photo of Chadwick, the actor known for films like Get on Up, and posed for pictures together.
It was lovely to see Michael B. Jordan and Letitia Wright at the ceremony, but I was especially moved to hear from Ryan Coogler and Viola Davis. Both are incredibly talented – Ryan, of course, directed Black Panther, and Viola was a powerhouse in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. They both had important things to say at the event.
Simone, who had secretly married Chadwick shortly before he passed away, spoke to the audience about the lasting impact of her late husband.
She described Chad as more than just an actor or artist, explaining he was a deeply spiritual person strengthened by his loved ones. He had a tight-knit family and close friends who kept him rooted in his faith, a supportive team who believed in him and always had his back, and colleagues who shared his creative vision and formed a strong bond. She emphasized how incredibly important those relationships were, and expressed her gratitude.
The 35-year-old explained that Chad was a wonderful teacher and a generous person. He had so much kindness and warmth to give that he shared pieces of himself with everyone, yet still had plenty of love left over for the world.

Simone spoke fondly of Chadwick’s lasting impact, sharing that she still feels close to him and remembers his artistry every day.
She acknowledged his talent and dedication, celebrating his lasting impact as both a hero and an inspiration. She continued, saying he lived a life of integrity and honesty, possessing a rare combination of intelligence and grace, as well as bravery and compassion.
She concluded, “We love you. We miss you. We thank you.”

The actor shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, saying it’s hard to put into words how they’re feeling. They’ve been thinking about all the memories they shared – the good times, the tough conversations, and everything in between. They expressed wishing they had more time with the person they’re speaking about, and remembered a final conversation where that person said they’d always be connected, a sentiment that now feels especially true.
From the very start of my career, when I was just 16 on All My Children, you were a guiding force. You taught me how to strive for excellence, stay true to my values, and build something lasting. Whether you knew it or not, I always looked up to you, learning from your incredible talent and drive.
I wish we had more time together. Your impact on the world – the inspiring characters you brought to life – will never be forgotten. But what truly hurts is realizing just how much of a legend you were. You always stayed true to what mattered most: your family, friends, your work, and your spirit. You cared deeply about others, about the community, and about making a difference. You cared about me. You were like a big brother, and I never fully had the chance to tell you how much you meant to me, or to properly thank you while you were here.
I now understand how precious time is with those we love and admire. I’m going to miss your honesty, your kindness, your humor, and your amazing talent. I’ll especially miss sharing scenes with you. From now on, I’m dedicating my life to living as you did – with grace, courage, and without regrets. He was a king, truly. Rest in peace, brother.

The actress shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, still grieving the loss of her friend and colleague. She found it difficult to express the depth of her sadness, saying nothing seemed sufficient to capture how remarkable Chadwick was. She described him as genuinely kind, incredibly generous, and possessing a natural regal quality, making her job as Okoye – protecting and respecting the king – effortless. She was constantly grateful to work alongside someone so elegant, dedicated, and graceful, a true professional perfectly suited to lead a groundbreaking franchise that had a huge impact on Black representation.
He had a remarkable gift for making people feel valued and understood. He brought legendary characters to life with depth and authenticity because he himself possessed a deep inner strength. He was a true original – courageous, determined, and inspiring – not only in his art, but also in how he navigated life, all while offering guidance to others.
He was a wonderfully kind, funny, and peaceful person with an infectious laugh. He was also incredibly thoughtful and genuinely good. I’m still struggling to accept this loss, which is felt deeply by me and so many others worldwide. My heart especially goes out to the children he inspired, who have lost a hero they had just discovered. I’m grateful for the experience of working with him on Black Panther, and I will always cherish knowing him, learning from his guidance, and calling him my friend.

The connection Chadwick and I shared felt like family, but few people know our story actually started well before he became Black Panther. At the premiere of Black Panther, Chadwick told me something amazing. He reminded me that when I received an honorary degree from Howard University – his college – he was the student chosen to escort me that day. And there we were, years later, celebrating together on what felt like the best night ever, as friends and coworkers!
