Fans of Chainsaw Man were given a short preview of Kenshi Yonezu’s “IRIS OUT” song with the release of the official movie trailer at Anime Expo. Notably, Yonezu, who has been enjoying an impressive streak of successes with his opening music for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX and The Medalist, is rejoining the Chainsaw Man series for the upcoming film, having previously performed “Kick Back” for the anime’s first season. The trailer showcased a brief snippet of “IRIS OUT,” with the full song yet to be released at the time this article was written. The single will be out on September 24th, just five days after Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc opens in Japan.
Artist Yonezu recently unveiled the cover art for “IRIS OUT,” showcasing the character Reze from Chainsaw Man. The design exudes a hand-painted aesthetic, with Reze shrouded in deep hues of blue, red, and black. She playfully bites her lower lip while gazing at the observer, underscoring the mysterious allure of the character, symbolizing her seductive influence on Denji and implying that she may not be entirely trustworthy. The “IRIS OUT” single will hit stores in three different versions: a special limited-edition “IRIS OUT” package, a combined CD and DVD edition (limited), and the standard CD version.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc‘s “IRIS OUT” May Be Yonezu’s Next Big Hit
In the opening credits of “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” the song “PLAZMA” by Yonezu was played. This tune topped the Oricon Weekly Digital Singles chart with over 43,000 downloads in its debut week. Interestingly, Yonezu himself designed the cover art for the “PLAZMA” single, which showcases two primary characters from “Gundam GQuuuuuuX.” A music video for the song was later released, incorporating scenes from the anime and revealing significant spoilers about the series. Notably, Yonezu had previously composed “Bow and Arrow,” the hit opening theme for another anime titled “Medalist.” To further promote this connection, an artwork crossover was created by Tsurumaikada, the artist of “Medalist.” Now, with Yonezu’s return to “Chainsaw Man,” a popular series produced by MAPPA, fans are eagerly anticipating his contribution.
Chainsaw Man – The Film: Reze Saga
The movie, Chainsaw Man – The Reze Arc, is a direct follow-up to the Chainsaw Man anime, taking inspiration from the story arc of the same name in the manga. In this narrative, our protagonist, Denji, encounters a fresh character that he develops strong feelings for; however, his emotions are complicated due to his existing infatuation with his superior officer, Makima. To make matters more complex, the Devil Hunters of Public Safety encounter a new foe known as the Bomb Devil.
Starting from September 19th, “Chainsaw Man – The Movie” will make its debut in Japanese cinemas. Sony Pictures is partnering with MAPPA Studios to distribute the film worldwide across more than 80 countries and regions, including North America, South America, and Europe. The movie will initially be screened in Hong Kong on September 24th. Simultaneously, US theaters along with those in the UK, Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Greece, Iceland, and Nigeria will showcase the film on October 29th.
