Before last night’s episode of Married at First Sight Australia, Channel 4 showed a tribute to honor relationship expert Mel Schilling, who recently passed away.
I was deeply saddened to learn of Mary Schilling’s passing. Her family announced earlier this week that she died at the age of 54, after a courageous fight with colon cancer. It’s a real loss, and she’ll be missed.
The announcement followed closely after the reality TV star revealed she was leaving the UK version of the show, having learned her cancer had spread to the left side of her brain.
Channel 4 honored the Australian relationship expert last night with a tribute message shown before the newest episode of Married At First Sight Australia aired on E4.

Channel 4 is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mel Schilling, according to an announcer.
Mel and her family wanted the show, Married At First Sight, to continue, honoring her dedication to helping people find love and happiness. We are sending our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
Paul Brunson, a fellow cast member and friend of Schillings from Married at First Sight UK, also honored her with a social media post, sharing pictures of them together at the BAFTAs.
It was incredible being there! I was with Mel and Charlene [Douglas] representing MAFS UK as we walked the red carpet. It was our first time being nominated for anything, and honestly, I was a bundle of nerves!
What I remember most from that night was how the celebrities reacted when they won. Most of them simply waved and kept walking, but Mel did something different – she stopped immediately when she heard her name called.
He went on to say that Mel exemplified living by your principles. She prioritized people, consistently demonstrated courage even in difficult times, and always stood up for what she believed in.
Never lose faith in yourself, and love with all your heart. She lived fully, with strength and compassion. She will be cherished forever and missed terribly.

Her husband, Gareth Brisbane, sadly confirmed her death in a post, and thanked everyone for their support during this difficult time.
“Melanie Jane Brisbane-Schilling passed away peacefully today, surrounded by love,” he wrote.
Even though I believed cancer had robbed her of her voice, she pulled me close as she was dying and shared a final message for Maddie and me – a message I will cherish forever.
She used the last of her energy, and that simple act captured everything about our sweet Melsie. Even while exhausted, she was still thinking of Maddie and me.
Schilling first appeared on Married At First Sight Australia in 2016 during its second season and continued to be a part of the show until her death, even while undergoing chemotherapy.
Starting in 2021, she also began appearing on the UK version of the show, contributing as an expert.
After Paul C. Brunson announced he was leaving Married at First Sight UK due to illness, John Aiken was confirmed as his replacement for filming the new season.
Mel Schillings has requested that season 13 of Married at First Sight Australia continue airing on E4 at its regular time – 7:30pm, from Monday to Thursday.
