Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube may be ready to grab some handcuffs once again.
A new 22 Jump Street movie is officially happening, confirmed by the film’s producer on June 10th – over ten years after the last installment starred the original trio.
Neal H. Moritz shared a photo on his Instagram of the 24 Jump Street script—written by Hill, Megan Malloy and the upcoming film’s director Rodney Rothman—that read, “It took so long to make, we had to skip one.”
Alongside the announcement, he captioned the post, “A picture says a thousand words!”
Tatum, Hill, and Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson, Sr.) are reportedly in discussions to reprise their roles in a third movie in the series, according to several news sources.
Although Phil Lord and Chris Miller won’t be helming the movie as they did for 2012’s 21 Jump Street and its 2014 sequel, they were recruited as producers, along with Hill and Tatum.
Back in 2014, Sony Pictures considered a crossover movie combining 21 Jump Street with Men in Black. Leaked emails obtained by Variety revealed plans for a 23 Jump Street film that would have brought the two franchises together, but the project was eventually canceled.
“There is a project that was written,” Tatum told Comicbook.com in June 2024, “and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie.”
Even though a third Magic Mike movie wasn’t progressing, Channing Tatum was still hoping to make another installment featuring his and Jonah Hill’s characters, Jenko and Schmidt. The duo previously went undercover as high school and college students in earlier films.
He expressed his enthusiasm for a potential 23 Jump Street movie, saying he’d love to make it with Jonah Hill. Hill also wants to do it, and they both hope to work together again.

Okay, so when they started thinking about a sequel, Hill – and honestly, it’s EVERYTHING – said that coming back to this whole 22 Jump Street thing – which, let’s be real, started with the amazing original series with Johnny Depp – only worked if they knew they were being a little ridiculous. They had to be in on the joke, you know? It’s like they understood how crazy it was to revisit it all, and they leaned into that. It’s genius, honestly!
“We call ourselves out right out of the gate in this one, that sequels are bigger and crappier than the first ones,” the Superbad actor told Collider in 2014 of the second movie. “So, that’s kinda the approach we’re taking with this, to have a very aware attack at ourselves for making a sequel in the first place.”
When I first started working on the movie, I envisioned a blend of the action from Bad Boys with the heartfelt storytelling of a John Hughes film. We made a point of poking fun at the typical sequel formula – how they often have bigger budgets but end up being worse than the original. It’s a large-scale movie, but we filled it with silly humor, which I think makes it really fun and entertaining.”
