Over the weekend, Vice President J.D. Vance’s family trip to Disneyland led to protests and enhanced security at the Anaheim resort. While J.D., his wife Usha, and their three young children (ages 8 and below) were having a peaceful family vacation at Disneyland, protesters assembled outside the park and the adjacent Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
Activists strongly expressed their disapproval towards the federal immigration policies, especially the ICE raids recently conducted in California, transforming an initially casual family gathering into a politically tense occasion.

On a Friday evening, it was reported that local authorities had become aware that Vance was about to arrive. Meanwhile, protests took place on Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue, with demonstrators waving U.S. and Mexican flags and holding signs such as “No vacations during deportations” and “You can’t hate us and enjoy us.

By Saturday morning, approximately 100 protesters persisted outside the hotel entrance, voicing their chants and displaying signs advocating for immigrant communities impacted by federal enforcement. In response, Disneyland beefed up its security measures at crucial locations within the resort. This included the use of bomb-sniffing dogs and heightened screening checkpoints around the Grand Californian, as well as the temporary closure of certain entrances.
Vance’s Visit to Disneyland
Within the park, Secret Service agents constantly accompanied the Vance family. A popular video emerged showing the vice president running behind his children in the region known as Bayou Country—a clip that swiftly gained traction on social networking platforms. Other visitors mentioned that certain attractions, like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, momentarily closed to secure the family’s privacy.

Governor Gavin Newsom likewise commented, emphasizing the difference between Vance’s journey and his government’s principles.
In a social media post on platform X, he stated, “I wish you have a wonderful time with your family, @JDVance. The families that you’re separating won’t be able to.” Newson’s office commented, “35% of Anaheim’s population are immigrants. Disneyland wouldn’t function without their hard work. Savor it.
Vance replied on X simply, “Had a great time, thanks.”

Local authorities, including Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento, expressed their displeasure as well. Sarmiento stated that Vance’s visit seemed “insensitive” in light of the ongoing immigration raids, and he criticized the vice president for enjoying leisure activities during a time when the community was facing hardship.
Within the park, a demonstrator named Jane Fleming Kleeb, representing the Democratic National Committee, approached Vance personally, with him carrying his five-year-old son at that moment.

She expressed her stance clearly – “We back immigrants, we back America.” She posed a straightforward query: “Don’t you despise California?” These statements on platform X underscored the internal conflicts within the park.
Online Response
As a film critic, I’ve got to say, the debate surrounding Governor Newsom’s criticism of the Vice President during their respective vacations has been quite the cinematic drama. On one side, there are those who sympathize with the protesters, seeing it as a valid form of expression. On the other hand, some argue that confronting a father while he’s enjoying time off with his kids is not just unfair, but downright rude – akin to disrupting the peace during a movie premiere. One particular social media poster even took issue with Governor Newsom for his vocal criticism, likening it to an uninvited heckler at the movies.
It’s quite possible that you played a significant role in the incident where he was shouting at, as it appeared to occur in front of his children. Keep in mind that children can’t vote and are typically not familiar with politics.
It seems that you’re implying that Governor Gavin Newsom was responsible for the incident where people were shouting at JD Vance and his family during their visit to Disneyland. In essence, your statement suggests that it is plausible that the yelling directed towards him occurred in front of his children, who are too young to vote or comprehend political matters.

Additionally, April Silverman, who happened to be at the park that day, expressed on X that the Vice President received significantly more applause rather than jeers, as she uploaded a brief video snippet capturing the cheers as the family passed by.

During the Vice President’s visit, Disney chose not to discuss specific guest matters. However, it was said that the resort remained secure throughout the trip, with no incidents such as arrests or injuries taking place. Regular operations carried on smoothly as normal.

Essentially, the initial plan for a personal family outing by the Vice President turned into a highly-publicized issue. As a result, Disneyland increased security measures and made some adjustments to their operations. Despite being met with jeers and demonstrations, Vance shared that he still had an enjoyable experience.
