Charlie Hunnam, known for his work on Monster’s third season, will be back for season four, but he won’t be playing the character of Ed Gein this time around.
Like past seasons of this show, season 4 will feature a brand new story with a fresh setting, this time centered around the infamous Lizzie Borden.
Ella Beatty will play Borden, and Charlie Hunnam will star as her father, Andrew Borden. Netflix has now officially confirmed Hunnam’s return, following previous rumors.
Netflix posted a photo of the pair on their social media pages, announcing that filming for the new season is now underway in Los Angeles.
Okay, so I was really surprised and excited to hear Vicky Krieps is coming back! She was fantastic as Ilse Koch in season 3, but she’s going to be playing a totally different character this time around – Bridget Sullivan, Lizzie’s maid. It’s cool to see them repurpose actors like that, and I’m really curious to see what she does with this new role.
The show also stars Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, Billie Lourd as Emma Borden, and Jessica Barden as Nance O’Neill.
Max Winkler, who previously directed episodes in seasons 2 and 3, will direct the first episode of season 4. However, no other information about the new season has been released yet.
Lizzie Borden was put on trial in 1892 for the axe murders of her father and stepmother, but she was found not guilty. Because no one else was ever accused of the crime, she became an outcast in her hometown of Fall River, Massachusetts.
Charlie Hunnam recently spoke out in support of Ryan Murphy’s true crime series, which has faced criticism for potentially sensationalizing and romanticizing the crimes it portrays, a concern that has arisen in past seasons as well.
Hunnam explained to The Hollywood Reporter that he didn’t believe the show ever exaggerated things for effect. He said on set, everything felt necessary to tell the story truthfully, and nothing was done just to be shocking or overly dramatic.
You can now watch ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ on Netflix. Netflix subscriptions start at just £5.99 per month, and it’s also available through Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.
