Approximately twenty minutes into Kirk’s talk, a tragic event unfolded – gunshots echoed from a building close by, as reported by the university’s representative to NBC News. Later on, it was confirmed that Kirk was transported to the hospital, according to a spokesperson from Turning Point USA.
The school’s initial announcement suggested that a suspect was being held by the police. However, University of Utah Valley (UVU) spokesperson Ellen Treanor later made it clear that no suspect had actually been taken into custody, according to NBC News.
2012 saw Kirk becoming renowned for founding Turning Point USA, a group geared towards igniting conservative student activism across universities. His influence expanded significantly through social media platforms, garnering him over 3.8 million subscribers on his YouTube channel alone.
