Wow, what a week for Chelsea Green! I was so thrilled to see her win the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship, and then to become the first two-time WWE Women’s United States Champion on SmackDown – incredible! She’s really reaching for the stars, and she recently told ComicBook about a dream she has. Basically, she’d love to see Matt Cardona come back to WWE! It would be amazing to see them team up or even feud – I’m already imagining the possibilities!
In the past year, WWE has been more willing to include wrestlers’ real-life relationships in their storylines, and Chelsea Green expressed strong interest in exploring a storyline with her husband, Matt Cardona, if he returned to WWE. She described it as a ‘dream come true,’ explaining that their wrestling careers often kept them apart for much of their relationship. However, after both were released by WWE during the COVID-19 pandemic, they were able to connect and work together on the independent wrestling circuit.
It’s incredibly challenging to balance work, life, and a relationship, but we found it really rewarding to accomplish things together and support each other’s goals. That’s why I’m hoping we can continue to do that now in WWE – it was always our dream. Matt had a fantastic 15-year career here, and I’m just starting out, so it’s frustrating that we can’t be sharing this experience at the same time.”
It’s been a while since Zack Ryder and I have been in the same place at the same time, but with all the recent mixed tag team matches and the return of some classic wrestlers, I think now is the perfect time to bring him back – as Matt Cardona. I’m hoping he could even join the mixed tag team division. Ultimately, I just want to see Matt back in WWE, in any capacity.
WWE has a history of incorporating real-life relationships into its storylines, like with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch’s ‘The Vision’ arc, which even led to a tag team match featuring CM Punk and AJ Lee. Currently, Zelina Vega and Alistair Black are appearing together on SmackDown, making it a fitting moment for a WWE reunion to occur.
With Cardona recently appearing on WWE television thanks to the partnership between TNA and NXT, and receiving a positive reaction from the crowd during his match on NXT, a return to WWE feels right. He’s become a major star on the independent wrestling circuit since leaving WWE, consistently investing in himself. Now, a full return to WWE seems perfect, and a storyline involving his wife, Chelsea Green, would be an ideal fit.
