The main idea is that everyone makes mistakes or does things that are misinterpreted, and that doesn’t necessarily make them a bad person. There’s definitely something to that.

Chevy Chase has often been in the news for his controversial behavior. A recent documentary about the show Community reportedly struggled to find cast or crew members willing to participate, likely due to Chase’s well-known and public disagreements with the show’s creator, Dan Harmon.

The documentary stirred up old conflicts, particularly a disagreement between Chevy Chase and Terry Sweeney. Sweeney was upset that Chase supposedly asked him to participate in a sketch considered offensive towards gay people during the AIDS crisis. Chase, however, states he doesn’t recall the situation as Sweeney remembers it.

The documentary isn’t without its own issues, including a scene where Chevy Chase angrily scolds the director while she’s interviewing him. The director has previously discussed how challenging it was to interview the comedian.

Comedians occasionally cross the line and say or do things that offend people, even if that wasn’t their intention. Interestingly, many of those who’ve been offended by Chase’s past behavior are also comedians themselves.
