Firehouse 51 is losing another beloved member.
Approximately three months have passed since Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett, stars of “Chicago Fire“, announced they wouldn’t be continuing with the NBC series for its 14th season. Now, another firefighter character is preparing to take off their safety equipment.
Michael Bradway, known for playing Jack Damon, the younger brother of Taylor Kinney’s Kelly Severide, won’t be part of the drama’s upcoming season because of scheduling issues. However, it has been learned that the show’s producers are optimistic about his potential return to the series in the future should their schedules align.
Following Bradway’s recent addition to the cast of Prime Video’s upcoming series “Every Year After,” it was announced. This series is an adaptation of Carley Fortune’s 2022 novel, “Every Summer After.” Excited for the opportunity to embody his character, Charlie Florek, Bradway shared the news on Instagram on July 17, expressing his immense enthusiasm about bringing the role to life.
Before I said my goodbyes at the windy city firehouse, my fellow cast members Kyri and Lockett reminisced about our shared experiences there.
Kyri, who played firefighter Darren Ritter for seven seasons, expressed on Instagram in April that he’ll be sad to leave this character behind but it’s now time to move forward. He also extended his gratitude to the cast, crew, and devoted fans.
Meanwhile, Lockett spoke highly of his role as Sam Carver.
Although I can’t predict what the future will hold, I am certain it won’t be just like the past. Oh, how I’ll miss it! This journey has been filled with so much pride, and I’ve loved every moment of bringing Sam to life. To all of you who have shown love and support over the past three years, thank you. Your kindness and encouragement mean the world to me.

Jax Taylor is opting out of appearing in season three of “The Valley,” as fan anxiety over his actions in the show’s second season escalates.
Currently, my priority lies in maintaining my sobriety, improving my mental well-being, and shared parenting. As I navigate through a challenging divorce from my estranged spouse, Brittany Cartwright, this was stated in July 2025 – taking time for myself is crucial to grow into the best person I can be, particularly for our son, Cruz.
Actress Tracy Ifeachor, who shone on “The Pitt,” decided to depart from the successful HBO Max medical series following its acclaimed initial season.
On Instagram, July 10th, the actress expressed her profound gratitude for having portrayed Dr. Heather Collins during such a pioneering season and production. She thanked everyone who watched, supported Season 1, and generously shared their stories with her.
It’s possible that viewers could have anticipated the end of Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel Miller, given that his death in April 2025 mirrored how it transpired in The Last of Us Part II, a video game released in 2020 which served as the basis for season two of The Last of Us. The scene where his character was gruesomely impaled left quite an impact.
In another turn of events, Pascal – who met his on-screen demise in both ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ – handled his frequent character deaths with a laugh. He quipped to ‘Entertainment Weekly’, “I get killed a lot… I enjoy dying.
Following what he referred to as “an exhilarating journey,” Peter Krause formally ended his portrayal of Bobby Nash, the Los Angeles Fire Department captain from the series 9-1-1, in a 2025 episode of the drama on April.
In his statement to the Hollywood Reporter, Krause expressed that Bobby Nash was crafted with sacrifice in mind. Just as first responders put their lives at risk for their duties, Nash’s character serves to pay tribute to these brave individuals.
The demise of the troubled yet cherished firefighter sparked a lot of discussion, as confirmed by showrunner Tim Minear to Variety. He explained, “After eight years, it seemed necessary if we want to generate stories with genuine tension in the future, someone needed to perish.
Before the commencement of the third season for “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” Reneé Rapp has declared her departure from the show’s cast.
In the summer of 2023, I was relocated to sunny Los Angeles by a group of remarkable college friends. Over the past two and a half years, they’ve not only enriched my life with their presence but also introduced me to an incredible network of individuals. Today, I can proudly say that this vibrant community is mine too.
The co-creator of the show, Mindy Kaling, also verified Rapp’s departure, expressing her affection for Renee Rapp and acknowledging that saying goodbye to Leighton Murray would be difficult. On Instagram Stories, she wrote, “We adore @reneerapp so much! We’ll miss her on the show, but we’re excited to see our friend on tour!
For over a year, there were whispers about Kevin Costner leaving the successful Paramount drama following its fourth and a half seasons. However, it wasn’t until June 2024 that he officially announced he wouldn’t be returning for the series’ concluding fifth season.
After nearly two decades portraying Meredith Grey, Ellen Pompeo bid farewell to her role as a regular character on the ABC drama in February 2023, marking the end of her tenure in the operating room.
On The Drew Barrymore Show in December 2022, Pompeo expressed the need for a change, saying, “I need to shake things up a bit.” At age 53, she explained that her brain is like scrambled eggs and needs something fresh. Just as you can’t solve the New York Times crossword puzzle every day, Pompeo feels the same about her work.
In a recent update, it was disclosed that Henry Cavill, who played key roles in the “Batman vs. Superman” movie, is departing from the Netflix fantasy series following its third season. Liam Hemsworth has been chosen to step into the role of Geralt for season four and possibly future episodes as well.
On Instagram last October, Henry Cavill shared that his experience as Geralt of Rivia has been a blend of monsters and exciting escapades. Sadly, he’ll hang up his medallion and sheathe his swords for Season 4.
Originally, Jesse Lee Soffer, one of the show’s main actors, handed in his badge in 2022, marking the end of his portrayal of Detective Jay Halstead after a decade on the job. In simpler terms, Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Detective Jay Halstead for 10 seasons, bid farewell to the show in 2022 by resigning from his role.
Every week for this hour-long drama, it has been a heartfelt effort from everyone involved, as stated by Soffer following his last performance on the NBC series in October. I will forever cherish my tenure portraying Detective Jay Halstead.
After five seasons, Damian Lewis departed Showtime’s Billions in Oct. 2021.
By August 2021, news broke out that Emily VanCamp had bid farewell to her medical scrubs permanently, as she had parted ways with Fox’s show “The Resident.
Following three captivating seasons playing Macy, the eldest sister on the CW’s reboot of Charmed, Madeleine Mantock announced her departure prior to season four in 2021. In a statement, the actress expressed gratitude for the opportunity, mentioning that she “thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with our talented producers, creatives, cast, and crew.
As a lifestyle expert looking back, I must admit that Elizabeth Keen will never unravel the mystery behind Raymond Reddington’s true identity. Megan Boone, the actress who brought Liz to life on NBC’s The Blacklist, decided to part ways with the show at the end of season eight. In a heartbreaking turn, her character met an untimely end before she could even lay eyes on the letter that held all the answers.
Boone closed the chapter on Liz’s journey in 2021, expressing her gratitude for the experience as “a dream” in an Instagram post.
In the second season of Bridgerton, there was one less duke, as Rege-Jean Page – who had captured hearts worldwide with his role in Netflix’s blockbuster drama – chose not to return for the series in 2021.
Later on, he clarified to Vanity Fair, “I took on a task, completed it, and then undertook some additional tasks.” He added, “In essence, that’s the tale. I wish there were more excitement involved.
Ruby Rose first appeared in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover and subsequently played the lead role of Kate Kane (also known as Batwoman) for one season on the CW drama. This marked a significant milestone as it made her the first lesbian superhero to spearhead her own TV series, with Batwoman revealing her sexuality in a pivotal television moment. However, she announced her departure from the role only two days after the season one finale was aired in 2020. The character was later reprised by Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, who will assume control of the Batcave in season two.
Later on in season two, Kate got a bit of a face swap and returned played by Wallis Day.
As a lifestyle expert looking back on the TV landscape, I must say that America Ferrera’s decision to step away from “Superstore” at the conclusion of season five in 2020 left quite an impact. Amy, our beloved manager, was suddenly absent, and Cloud 9 seemed lost without her guiding hand. However, due to unforeseen circumstances like the pandemic, she graciously returned for the initial episodes of season six.
When it was announced that season six would be the series finale, fans held their breaths, fearing an abrupt ending. But, true to form, America reappeared to grant Amy and Jonah (played by Ben Feldman) the heartwarming conclusion they richly deserved. It was a poignant moment for both the characters and the audience, reminding us all of the power of good storytelling.
In the finale of the Syfy series “The Magicians” during its fourth season in 2019, Jason Ralph’s character Quentin embarked on a mission to rescue Eliot (Hale Appleman), which he ultimately accomplished. However, Quentin made the ultimate sacrifice in the process. Notably, characters who die on this show do reappear, given that it is titled “The Magicians.” Regrettably, Ralph did not appear in the fifth and final season of the series.
Ahead of the final season, Arrow‘s Emily Bett Rickards announced her exit in a poem of sorts.
Felicity and I have been extremely close, but starting from the eighth, we’ll be taking our leave from you,” she put in writing.
She did, however, return for a guest appearance in the show’s 2020 series finale.
As an ardent fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Lauren Cohan, the extraordinary actress who brought Maggie Greene to life on The Walking Dead, decided to rejoin the struggle for survival in 2020, six years after her character mysteriously vanished following a time leap. Despite whispers of her potential return in season 10, I eagerly awaited each episode, hoping against hope that my beloved Maggie would resurface.
When I learned that Cohan’s brief stint on Whiskey Cavalier was cut short, my heart soared – it seemed fate itself was conspiring to reunite me with Maggie Greene! And lo and behold, the 16th episode of season 10 aired in October, and there she was, back where she belonged amidst the chaos and carnage of The Walking Dead. I could hardly believe my eyes – or my luck!
Following closely on the heels of Cohan and Andrew Lincoln saying goodbye to the zombie drama, Gurira also departed. She had joined the AMC series during its third season as the katana-wielding Michonne, and she made her final appearance in a season 10 episode that aired in March 2020.
In the first season, Nicollette Sheridan was a frequent character, while she became a main cast member in the second season, portraying the legendary Alexis Carrington. However, in 2019, prior to the start of season three, Sheridan shared her intention to leave the reboot of the show, as she wanted to be with her ailing mother.
George Eads departed from the CBS reboot during 2019, partway through season three. During that period, he conveyed his wish to step away and devote more attention to his loved ones.
As a lifestyle expert, I must say that the hit series “Lethal Weapon” has had its fair share of behind-the-scenes drama. In fact, back in the second season, Clayne Crawford was let go from the show, and in October 2018, Damon Wayans, my on-screen partner, announced his intention to leave the show after we complete the initial 13 episodes of the third season. To put it simply, he mentioned that he would be quitting in December, leaving us all wondering about the future direction of the show. As a 58-year-old diabetic, I’ve been working long hours of up to 16 per day, and I feel like Murtaugh might have said it best: “Too old for this.
The producers didn’t have to create a backup plan since the show ended after its third season.
During the ninth season of Shameless, Cameron Monaghan’s character was put behind bars. In truth, after spending nine years on the show, Monaghan was eager to delve into fresh endeavors. However, in an unexpected turn typical of TV, he agreed to come back for season 10 and was there when the series returned for its eleventh and final season in December 2020.
After nine seasons as Fiona Gallagher, Emmy Rossum announced plans to leave Shameless in 2018.
In a statement, executive producer John Wells emphasized that Emmy Rossum will always be considered part of the Shameless clan. Her exceptional portrayal of Fiona, leadership on set, and direction of several episodes have significantly contributed to the show’s success. As we are currently working on the season nine finale for Shameless, our aim is to bid a fitting farewell to Fiona that recognizes Emmy’s outstanding work. Parting ways with an integral ensemble member like Emmy is never easy, but we hope to keep the door open for potential future appearances by Fiona. I am excited about continuing to tell the unpredictable stories of this family on Shameless and everyone involved will miss Emmy and her remarkable portrayal of Fiona.
Chelsea Peretti initially appeared in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” when it first aired on NBC, but she didn’t stay throughout the entire series. In a string of tweets from 2018, the actress shared her decision to depart from the comedy show, though she hinted at returning. Her announcement was reminiscent of Emily Rossum’s farewell from “Shameless.” Peretti became a mother to a son with husband Jordan Peele in 2017. During season five, her character took maternity leave and missed several episodes.
Lincoln bid farewell to the gore, grime, and turmoil of the zombie apocalypse on The Walking Dead during season nine. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2018, he expressed, “This group has been the ideal substitute family I could have ever wished for. However, I do have a genuine family, and it’s time for me to return home.
15 long years have passed since I donned my lab coat as Abby Sciuto on NCIS, but in 2018, I felt the call to move on. The conviction in my faith grew so strong that it illuminated the path ahead for me. After much contemplation, I chose to share this transition personally through a tweet, not wanting the news to be sensationalized or turned into some shocking TV drama. Abby’s departure is more than just a cheap plot device; it’s a new chapter in my journey.
Willa Holland, a long-time cast member on The CW’s Arrow, was planning to leave the show according to its boss Marc Guggenheim in 2018. Holland requested fewer episodes and a written exit for season six, which ultimately occurred. Interestingly, her departure coincided with Colton Haynes’ return as Thea’s boyfriend, Roy, allowing them to depart together to destroy the dangerous Lazarus Pits that her father had discovered.
Grace Park, known for her role on Battlestar Galactica, departed from Hawaii Five-0 before its eighth season in 2017. She and fellow cast member Daniel Dae Kim left when discussions about achieving equal pay with their fellow actors didn’t succeed.
Later on, Park shared with Entertainment Weekly, “I’m thankful for the insights gained, but I opted for what preserved my honesty.” He added, “I understand that everyone is striving to do their best, and they all bring unique experiences from their individual pasts.
