Chicago Fire Reveals Shocking Character Exit During Season 14

Miranda Rae Mayo’s Chicago Fire character is putting family first.

On the November 5th episode of the popular NBC show, Stella Kidd (played by Miranda Mayo) revealed she was temporarily leaving Firehouse 51 to focus on supporting her and husband Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney)’s foster son, Isaiah (Hero Hunter).

Before the fourteenth season episode, Stella and Kelly – known by fans as “Stellaride” – temporarily care for Isaiah after his mother, Shawna, is seriously injured in a car accident and falls into a coma.

In the latest episode, Isaiah is worried about his mother, who is recovering in St. John’s hospital, and feels she isn’t receiving the care she needs.

Okay, so you will NOT believe what happened! Isaiah just showed up at the firehouse, totally out of the blue, practically begging Stella to help his mom. At first, Stella was annoyed, thinking he was skipping school, but she’s such a sweetheart, she agreed to take him to the hospital. And honestly? It was SO clear Isaiah was right to be worried. Something was seriously wrong, and Stella figured it out. I was on the edge of my seat, I tell you! It was heartbreaking and amazing all at once.

Stella arranges for Shawna to be transferred to a specialized recovery facility in Cleveland, getting help from Sharon Goodwin of Chicago Med. She volunteers to go with Isaiah to stay in Cleveland temporarily. Before the episode ends, Stella tells Severide and Mouch that she’s taking a leave of absence from her job.

Mayo’s sudden departure quickly got fans talking online, with one user posting on X, along with multiple crying emojis, “STELLA IS LEAVING.”

Just a heads-up, Chicago Fire is taking a break starting November 20th and won’t be back until January. If Stella’s departure is part of the storyline – and not just a temporary thing that’s resolved next week, as some viewers think – she’ll probably be back when the show returns in January.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this storyline closely, and I think this temporary departure is exactly what the character needs. She’s been having a really tough time connecting with Isaiah, and honestly, she’s admitted to feeling a bit jealous of the bond he shares with her husband. This break will give her the space to reflect and hopefully, grow closer to him when she returns.

Stella is understandably questioning herself and wondering what she might be doing wrong, as she recently shared with NBC Insider on November 4th.

While Chicago Fire is captivating, it’s not the only great show on TV right now. Here are some other series you might want to check out…
