Chris Chibnall teases his new ITV series Death at the White Hart, adapting his own novel

While Chris Chibnall is currently working on his new Netflix show, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, he recently revisited the channel where he first gained recognition for his popular drama, Broadchurch.

So, it turns out Chris Chibnall – you know, the guy who ran Doctor Who for a while – is now doing a new show for ITV. It’s called Death at the White Hart, and it’s based on a novel he actually wrote himself, which came out earlier this year. Pretty cool to see an author adapting their own work, right?

We spoke with Chris Chibnall for our video series, The TopMob Writers’ Room, where we explore the minds of screenwriters. During the interview, we asked him for an update on his latest project and how he’s approaching the adaptation.

He found adapting his own work to be a unique challenge. It requires a different approach and voice than the original book. They’re currently in the early stages of development with a fantastic team.

It’s good, actually. Having a broad understanding of the world helps, and this job is a nice change of pace. Adapting Seven Dials beforehand was really helpful, so we’ll see how things go from here.

The new series by Chris Chibnall, ‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials,’ is based on Christie’s 1929 novel, ‘The Seven Dials Mystery.’ Mia McKenna-Bruce plays Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent, a young woman who enjoys solving mysteries.

Set in England in 1925, the series begins with a seemingly harmless prank at a grand country house party that turns deadly. Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent, an unusually curious and resourceful woman, must investigate a sinister scheme that will not only solve a murder, but also dramatically alter her own life, marking a new take on the classic country house mystery.

I was really fascinated by a recent chat with Chris Chibnall for The TopMob Writers’ Room. He talked about so many of his projects – Broadchurch, Doctor Who, Torchwood – and even let slip that he once worked on a Merlin series that, sadly, never saw the light of day. It was a great peek behind the scenes at how these shows come together.

You can watch the complete interview with Chris Chibnall from The TopMob Writers’ Room on Thursday, January 15th.
