Beloved comic book writer Chris Claremont assures fans he’s not intentionally keeping things from them – he’s simply working on a delay.
I’m currently working on a new project that’s coming out much sooner than I expected, and I apologize for the delay in getting it to you. I really should be home writing it right now!
Chris Claremont is a highly respected writer in Marvel Comics history. He started as an editorial assistant in the late 1960s and became a key writer, especially known for his work with the X-Men. His memorable run began with X-Men #94 in 1975 and continued across many different titles.
Chris Claremont, who worked on the X-Men for almost twenty years, finds it impossible to pick a single favorite story arc. He views the entire run as one continuous narrative, starting with issue #94 and continuing through issue #279. As he puts it, ‘It’s life,’ meaning the entire series feels like a single, unfolding story to him.
Claremont described the lives of these characters as incredibly strange and interconnected. He explained that while their story has many details and offshoots—similar to the long runs of Excalibur, Wolverine, and New Mutants—it’s fundamentally a single, continuous narrative.
What’s Next For Chris Claremont?
It’s still unknown what Chris Claremont is working on next, but fans are already guessing. Many believe he’s planning another Marvel Comics series reminiscent of past favorites – he’s created over half a dozen such series in recent years.
A third series of stories continued the narrative several years after the original run ended. That same year, Claremont revisited the world of Excalibur in X-Men Legends #12, and also wrote a particularly adventurous and previously unpublished story featuring Gambit and Storm in the popular limited series, Gambit: Thick as Thieves.
Recently, writer Chris Claremont has returned to some of the most popular periods in Wolverine’s history with a series of throwback titles. In 2024, he released Wolverine: Madripoor Knights and Wolverine: Deep Cut, each offering a unique story set at different points in Logan’s life. He continued this trend in 2025 with three more throwback titles, including Wolverine and Wolverine & Kitty Pryde.
Chris Claremont’s comics can be found wherever books are sold.
