Chris Evans Seemingly Confirms MCU Future With ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Return

As a huge movie fan, I’m already getting excited about Avengers: Doomsday and its incredible cast! But it sounds like Avengers: Secret Wars could be something truly special. It’s being talked about as the biggest superhero movie ever, and the Russo brothers are aiming for an epic finale to this whole Multiverse Saga. Apparently, Doctor Doom is going to be the big bad, trying to destroy everything across all universes. What’s really wild is that this sixth Avengers film might actually reboot the MCU! That means we could see new faces playing characters we’ve loved for almost two decades – it’s a bit scary, but also super intriguing!

Besides Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom, very few actors have been confirmed for this movie. Some surprising additions include Sadie Sink, whose role is currently a secret, but the cast is predicted to be even bigger and more impressive than Marvel’s plans for Doomsday. Expect even more exciting announcements in the future.

Instagram user @comiconmomsi shared a video featuring a message seemingly from Chris Evans. In the message, Evans jokingly wondered what he could hint at regarding his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with a role in Avengers: Doomsday. He then appeared to confirm he’ll be back for Avengers: Secret Wars, saying he’d likely start working on the film in a few months. While the message’s authenticity hasn’t been confirmed, it strongly suggests his involvement in Secret Wars.

I’m not able to share confidential information, unfortunately. But I can say that I’ll be starting work on my next project in a couple of months.

At the end of 2025, fans were stunned when the Russo Brothers released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, revealing Chris Evans would reprise his role as Steve Rogers. The trailer showed him as a father, and while his exact part in the new Avengers movie isn’t clear, he’s expected to play a key role in the fight against Doctor Doom. As the Multiverse Saga wraps up, Evans seems to have a lot left to offer the MCU, with this project marking his 14th Marvel Studios film (and his 16th Marvel movie overall, counting his appearances in the Fantastic Four movies).

With the multiverse playing a big role in the new movie, Chris Evans could potentially return as several different characters. Fans are speculating he might reprise his role as the original Captain America – possibly taking on the ‘Nomad’ identity – or even play an evil version of Captain America from an alternate reality. Some are hoping to see him back as the Human Torch. Whatever character he plays, if he’s in the sequel, all attention will be on him.

He also revealed that filming for Secret Wars will start in just a few months, meaning the film’s biggest stars will soon be reuniting. With a likely start date in late May or early June – about a year and a half before the movie hits theaters (and while still finishing up work on Doomsday) – all attention will be on Marvel to see what they’ve created, even if they manage to keep everything under wraps.

Avengers: Secret Wars will debut in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.
