Chris Hemsworth Got Electrocuted And Pepper-Sprayed For His Disney+ Show, And I Didn’t Expect To Relate To His Reasoning

Fans will have to wait a bit longer for Chris Hemsworth to reappear as the mighty Thor in the Russo brothers’ film “Avengers: Doomsday,” but they don’t have to wait long to witness his fantastic toughness elsewhere. The second season of Hemsworth’s unscripted series, now titled “Limitless: Live Better Now,” is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+ with a subscription, almost three years after the first season. However, it’s safe to say that Thor probably never encountered pepper spray or electric shocks during game night!

In the second season of “Limitless,” there are three thrilling episodes filled with intense scenarios pushing human capabilities to their extremes. These include nerve-wracking cliff dives, playing drums in front of an enthusiastic crowd for the first time – both testing the body’s limits in unique ways. For the episode titled “Pain,” the Australian character consented to undergo minor electric shocks and being sprayed with pepper spray, which took me by surprise as it mirrored a personal experience I could understand: enduring long-term chronic back pain.

During an interview with TVInsider, Hemsworth was inquired about his harrowing experiences in that episode and others. He explained that these hardships were endured as part of an effort to discover a viable solution for managing his persistent back problems.

Over the past few years, since I was 15, I’ve dealt with persistent back problems and pain. If a potential remedy were to present itself, I’d be open to it, even if it might cause additional discomfort initially. Now, I’m treating myself with kindness and understanding the pain as my body signaling that it needs rest, saying essentially, “Take it easy today.” Previously, I’ve tried to suppress and ignore the pain, but now I recognize it as a warning from my body.

Experiencing relief from long-standing back issues, I completely empathize with those who venture off the beaten path in search of relief. For Hemsworth, that conventional approach might as well be a game of Jenga, filled with precarious solutions.

In the given episode, Chris Hemsworth, along with Aaron Grist and Luke Zocchi, find electrodes attached to their chests and abdomens. Initially, a regulated series of shocks are administered during the initial stage of the process. As events progress, these mini-shocks become more intense while they partake in a social game – Jenga. Despite limited Jenga playtime, the men exhibit amusing, even frenzied reactions as they receive each shock.

One purpose of these experiments is to determine if applying a different kind of pain could help redirect someone’s sensory perception, thus diminishing or eliminating the original pain sensation. For example, when you have a severe headache, hitting your toe against a bedframe might momentarily make you forget about the headache.

In another part of the show, Hemsworth joins a special forces team not renowned for pain management expertise, but rather known for inflicting pain. An unusual and agonizing step in this four-phase sequence had everyone experiencing pepper spray to the face followed by attempts to pull heavy tires using ropes, with their vision and breathing impaired even further by the gases and smoke from flash grenades.

The ordeal that the special operations team experienced seemed and felt like unadulterated torment, and I doubt we’ll witness Chris Hemsworth repeating his role again. In his own words during the show:

1. The experience of the special forces unit resembled nothing short of sheer hell, and it’s unlikely we’ll see Chris Hemsworth reprise his character. (A bit more formal)
2. From what they went through, you could say the special forces unit endured the worst of times, and I can’t imagine Chris Hemsworth signing up for another round. (Informal)
3. The hardships faced by the special forces team appeared to be as bad as it gets, and I highly doubt we’ll see a repeat performance from Chris Hemsworth. (Clear and simple)

I’ve never been pepper-sprayed before, and…I don’t wanna be pepper-sprayed again.

Despite enduring numerous discomforts during the filming of Limitless, Hemsworth was unfortunately unable to surf a 40-foot wave as planned due to insurance concerns with Disney, fearing an injury before Thor’s upcoming comeback. Fortunately, during the series’ premiere in July, he didn’t have to face any such distressing family-related issues.

As a film connoisseur, I must share that the entire trilogy of “Limitless” is now streaming on both Disney+ and Hulu. While it hasn’t miraculously cured my personal back issues, it has left me reflecting gratefully upon the absence of electrocution-like pains in my own experience. Indeed, it’s those seemingly insignificant moments that often carry the most weight.
