Chris Hemsworth SHOCKINGLY Ditches Love and Thunder Diet

After more than a decade portraying Thor, one might expect Chris Hemsworth to lift Mjölnir effortlessly in his dreams. However, it seems that not even the God of Thunder escapes hitting a fitness plateau, particularly when gearing up for the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday”. Hemsworth is once again hitting the gym in preparation for the Marvel film, but I’m taken aback to discover he’s not aiming for his muscular physique from “Love and Thunder“. After years of consuming and exercising like a well-oiled machine to sustain Thor’s iconic figure, Hemsworth is opting for a new strategy.

Luke Zocchi, a longtime personal trainer to Chris Hemsworth, recently shared insights with The Independent UK about the actor’s current workout routine for his latest project. Zocchi highlighted that this training regimen is significantly more balanced and sustainable compared to the intense, almost punishing routine Hemsworth underwent for “Thor: Love and Thunder”. Discussing the reason behind Hemsworth’s imposing physique in the last solo film, Zocchi elaborated:

As an ardent fan, I found myself compelled to take action. Given the possibility that this might be Chris Hemsworth’s final outing as Thor, I felt it essential to portray a formidable presence. With a year to prepare, I threw myself into rigorous training. However, when Chris expressed his doubts about reprising the role, I found myself questioning whether we would get another chance to witness his thunderous performance as the God of Thunder.

For the movie “Love and Thunder,” Hemsworth significantly increased his diet to accommodate intense workouts, consuming as many as 10 meals a day, totaling approximately 4,500 calories. His personal trainer, Zocchi, shared that after every two to three meals, Hemsworth felt nauseous. To keep going, Zocchi would prepare protein shakes for him. The outcome? A physique straight out of the comic books, but an actor who was less than enthused about the process. Despite my assumption that Hemsworth was enjoying the fitness regimen at the time, it appears I was mistaken.

This time around, I’ve opted for a more flexible eating routine, limiting my daily meals to four or five, and bidding farewell to the structured meal times that used to cause me discomfort from bloating. As your personal fitness guide, I encourage you to consider this approach as well.

This time around, we’re paying closer attention to our physical selves. If Chris mentions he’s not feeling energetic today, we might engage in some continuous cardio exercises instead, and save the weightlifting for another day.

As a film enthusiast, my aim isn’t to surpass the visual spectacle of “Love and Thunder,” but rather to ensure that the star embodies strength, vitality, and a deep connection with the character. Zocchi subtly hinted that Thor’s new costume in “Doomsday” accentuates his arms and shoulders more prominently than his chest or legs, which means I’m putting extra emphasis on building those muscle groups at the gym. He further mentioned:

It’s intriguing to observe the change in Chris’ appearance in the new film. Contrary to expectations, he doesn’t appear as large as he did in Love and Thunder. The intention wasn’t to make him that big this time around, as it caused discomfort for Chris and required excessive food intake which he found unpleasant. In this film, he’s consuming four to five meals daily, but his diet isn’t as restrictive. We’re not forcing-feeding him, but he looks fantastic nonetheless.

Recovery is equally important. Before workouts, I take cold plunges and saunas (to prevent hindering muscle growth), and after lifting sessions, I engage in guided meditation and breathwork to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system—in essence, preparing my body for “rest and repair.

In the upcoming superhero film, “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is being filmed now and set for release on December 18, 2026, Hemsworth’s return as Thor promises a leaner yet equally powerful god of thunder. He won’t be bulking up through excessive dieting and intense workouts like before, but the results should still be impressive. I can’t wait to see how he looks on screen!
