Chris Pratt Reveals 1 Condition for Returning for Jurassic World 5 & Teaming Up With Scarlett Johansson

As a movie fan, I remember how Chris Pratt really exploded onto the scene in the mid-2010s. He quickly became one of the biggest stars around, largely thanks to playing Star-Lord in the Marvel movies. But he also became the face of the Jurassic World reboot, which was a massive hit! Each of those Jurassic World films he led made over a billion dollars worldwide, so it’s no surprise Universal kept the franchise going. Just last year, though, they switched things up with Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson as the lead. While Johansson seems set to continue the series, a lot of us are still hoping to see Pratt return to the world of dinosaurs sometime down the line.

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Chris Pratt talked about potentially returning to the Jurassic World series as Owen Grady. He said he’d be very open to it, calling it “awesome.” Pratt expressed his fondness for the character, the people he works with, and Universal Pictures, and even suggested a reunion with Scarlett Johansson would be fantastic. He added that any return would need to build on the stories from the previous three films in a respectful way.

Will Chris Pratt Return for Another Jurassic World Movie?

Although there’s no official release date yet, Universal Pictures is reportedly working on another Jurassic World movie. The success of the previous film, Rebirth (which made $869.1 million globally), has convinced the studio that there’s still strong interest in these films. The stars of Rebirth – Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey – are likely to reprise their roles, and director Gareth Edwards is also expected to return. Beyond that, details are scarce, and fans are waiting for an official announcement from the studio to see if Chris Pratt will be involved.

The newest Jurassic World film doesn’t even mention Owen Grady, signaling a shift towards a completely new storyline. While this might suggest the character is no longer needed, things could change. The previous Jurassic World movies successfully brought back original Jurassic Park cast members like Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern, proving that returning familiar faces is possible. However, Chris Pratt points out that any return for Owen would need to feel natural to the story. Jurassic World Dominion gave Owen a satisfying conclusion, reuniting him with Blue and her offspring and allowing him to settle into a peaceful family life. Despite this, his expertise with dinosaurs could still be valuable, but only if there’s a compelling reason for him to get involved again.

Look, I’m not convinced bringing Owen Grady back would even help another Jurassic World movie. Unlike franchises like Star Wars or Marvel, where we’re really invested in the characters, Jurassic is all about the dinosaurs. Let’s be honest, the dinosaurs are the stars, and whether or not we particularly care about the humans running from them is almost beside the point. The series has consistently pulled in audiences for decades, even with a rotating cast of main characters, which proves people will go see a Jurassic movie as long as there are dinosaurs to watch. We’ll always have a soft spot for characters like Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and Ellie Sattler, but the franchise has proven it doesn’t need those specific faces to succeed.

Since Star-Lord and Black Widow never shared a scene in the Marvel movies, it would be entertaining to see Chris Pratt and Scarlett Johansson team up in a Jurassic World film. They’d probably have great on-screen chemistry, potentially bonding over their shared experiences with surviving dangerous prehistoric creatures. It would be good to see the filmmakers bring Owen Grady back, but only if it feels natural to the story. While Jurassic World remains popular at the box office, the movies haven’t been impressing critics with their storylines. The next film definitely needs a strong narrative and shouldn’t awkwardly add characters just for the sake of it.
