Chris Pratt’s Hit Animated Movie Getting a Sequel (& Confirms if He’ll Return)

According to The Wrap, Alcon Entertainment has announced plans for a sequel to the unexpected success, “The Garfield Movie.” Last year’s animated film, which was a surprise hit for both Alcon Entertainment and Sony Pictures, is set to see Chris Pratt return as the voice of Garfield in the upcoming sequel. At this point, only Chris Pratt has been confirmed for the project, with a director and writer yet to be appointed. In addition to reprising his role as Garfield, Pratt will also serve as a producer for the animated sequel.

The film titled “The Garfield Movie” is derived from Jim Davis’ popular comic strip. In this first installment, Chris Pratt lends his voice to the character of Garfield, reconnecting with his father, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, a fellow Marvel actor. To everyone’s surprise, it became a significant box office success for Sony Pictures, raking in over $257.2 million globally on a production budget of approximately $60 million. Davis is an executive producer for the films as part of his agreement with Alcon Entertainment for the rights. He will produce alongside Bridget McMeel from Amuse, John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, and Alcon principals Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Back in June of 1978, Garfield made its initial appearance as a comic strip. To this day, it holds the title as the comic strip with the greatest global distribution.

In the continuation of “The Garfield Movie,” Chris Pratt takes on another role – this time as Garfield. Movie.” A follow-up to that film is scheduled for Spring 2026, with Pratt reprising his role as Mario. Additionally, Pratt lent his voice to “The Lego Movie” in 2014, which grossed an astounding $468 million globally and led to sequels and spinoffs.

Lately, Chris Pratt has been featured alongside Millie Bobby Brown in “The Electric State” on Netflix, adapted from the same-titled illustrated novel. Notably, Pratt is recognized for playing Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World films. It’s uncertain if or when we can expect him to reprise his role as Star-Lord within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
