Christina Applegate Hospitalized for Double Kidney Infection

Christina Applegate is navigating a new chapter of her health journey.

As a devoted fan and former star of “Married With Children,” I recently disclosed my multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, and now find myself battling a kidney infection in the hospital. Despite these challenges, I had the privilege of recording an episode of my podcast, MesSy, alongside the remarkable Jamie-Lynn Sigler, right here from my hospital room.

On the August 5th broadcast, as a lifestyle expert, I found myself in a unique situation – not from my usual studio, but rather, a hospital. While initially, the idea of recording a podcast here seemed intriguing, I soon realized that it was more practical to stick with our previously scheduled plan. The reason being, medical professionals are keeping me here for a while longer due to some complications. Rest assured, everything is under control and I’m on the mend.

During a recent visit to her family in Europe, a woman aged 53 shared with her audience that she had been enduring severe discomfort throughout her stay. Upon returning home, Christina decided to immediately seek medical attention at the hospital to prevent any possibility of waking up in agony and needing an early-morning emergency room visit.

In an enthusiastic fervor, I exclaimed, ‘I’m yearning to be part of this place, I need the truth! I’m not leaving until I get it.’ I added, ‘I crave every test you can imagine or even those that might have slipped your mind. Make them happen!'”

In this paraphrase, the speaker is expressing their intense desire to be admitted and their determination to stay until they receive answers. The language used reflects an excited and passionate fan who is eager to uncover hidden truths.

The pain on her right side got so intense, she was sure that her appendix was bursting.

She confided that she was in so much agony, shouting for help, when at 2 a.m., they arranged an emergency CT scan for her. She proceeded to the examination and discovered she had a kidney infection.

Due to the kidney infection affecting both of her kidneys, the actress from “Dead to Me” revealed she was receiving intravenous antibiotics. However, the origin of her kidney infection left doctors speculating, suggesting it might have originated as a urinary tract infection that ascended into the kidney-a theory that Christina found somewhat questionable.

She chuckled and said, ‘What on earth am I supposed to be doing differently at 53? Really, they asked me about this old UTI incident – they suggested I might not be wiping right. I retorted, ‘Just stop suggesting corrections!’

Christina made a joke saying, “Indeed, I enjoy cleaning myself in that regard, and my vagina is spotless. After all, I’m very clean down there.

Although there’s a possibility her illness might be something other than what we initially thought, the podcast host preferred not to specify the alternative, stating, “I’d rather avoid creating an atmosphere of fear.

And unfortunately Christina’s MS diagnosis has made it so that she is often in the hospital.

She shared in her MesSy podcast on March 19 that for the past three years, since her diagnosis, she’s been hospitalized over 30 times due to vomiting, diarrhea, and pain. This is hard to comprehend, I know. They’ve examined me thoroughly, using every known test, and have exposed my body to a significant amount of radiation from CT scans and other procedures.

Christina Applegate shared she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021.

Hello friends, back in August, I shared on my social media channels that I was diagnosed with MS. This journey has been quite unusual, but I’ve been fortunate to have the support of others who also live with this condition. It’s been a challenging path, but as we all know, life goes on. Let’s hope no one decides to put up roadblocks along the way.

During her induction at the Hollywood Walk of Fame in November 2022, which was her first public outing since being diagnosed with a disease, she playfully commented, “Guess what? I have a disease! Didn’t you notice? I’m not even wearing shoes today.

Christina believes her MS journey actually began “six or seven years” before her 2021 diagnosis.

During a conversation with Good Morning America in March 2024, Christina shared an observation she made while working on Dead to Me. She mentioned that during filming, her leg often gave way, especially during the first season. At first, she attributed it to being tired, dehydrated, or weather-related conditions. However, for several months afterward, nothing seemed amiss, and she didn’t give it much thought.

By the end of filming the third and last season for the Netflix series, the actress shared that she was being transported to the set in a wheelchair.

“I couldn’t move that far,” she recalled, “so I had to tell everybody because I needed help.”

In the image she shared, the actress from Dead to Me commented on her assortment of canes as a result of her Multiple Sclerosis fight: “Now, walking sticks have become a regular part of my life.

Accompanied by her daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, Christina delivered a straightforward message regarding Multiple Sclerosis at the 2023 SAG Awards: “MS, I give you the finger.

Following a heartwarming standing ovation at the 2023 Emmys, the former star of “Married…With Children” humorously remarked, “Your applause makes me feel like you’re embarrassingly praising me for my ability despite my disability.

Christina explained during the March 2024 episode of Armchair Expert that she tells jokes about her condition because if she doesn’t, it feels like she might asphyxiate. She simply means that she has to keep making jokes because it helps her cope and move on.

She mentioned during the podcast that she has thirty lesions in her brain, with the largest one located behind her right eye. This causes significant pain in her right eye.

According to the Multiple Sclerosis Trust, Legions (disease lesions) are formed when the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective layer surrounding nerve fibers.

Christina hasn’t held back when it comes to sharing her journey.

The Anchorman actress expressed her hardships to late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel regarding her daily battles with Multiple Sclerosis. She was candid about it and said, “I’d be dishonest if I didn’t admit that I don’t think anyone diagnosed with MS would see it as the best thing that ever happened to them.

In an interview with Good Morning America in March 2024, Christina described her daily life with the disease as “more like living in a nightmare.

She mentioned, “However, I may reach a point where I function somewhat more effectively,” she said. “At the moment, I’m choosing solitude as my coping mechanism, staying put since I’d rather not engage in activities. It’s tough.

Christina acknowledged that her “Sweetest Thing” co-star, Selma Blair (diagnosed with MS in 2018), inspired her to undergo testing for the illness.

During her GMA interview, Christina remembered saying, “She advised me to have an examination for Multiple Sclerosis,” and added, “Without her, the situation might have gotten much more serious.

Christina has expressed that it’s highly probable that “Dead to Me” will mark her final on-screen role. In an interview with Vanity Fair in May 2023, she shared, “I find it hard to picture myself on a film set at the moment.

She expressed that it’s unlikely she’ll act on-camera again, but she’s incredibly grateful for having collaborated with an exceptional actress – Linda Cardellini – who is undoubtedly the best I’ve ever worked with throughout my career, or perhaps even the most remarkable person I’ve encountered in life.
