Cillian Murphy Returns as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders Movie Trailer

Tommy Shelby is back—and this time, not by order of the Peaky Blinders.

In the new film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Cillian Murphy returns as the former gang leader after seven years in hiding. He’s back to confront his successor—his son, Duke Shelby, played by Barry Keoghan—and stop him from taking the gang in the wrong direction.

In a scene set in 1940, Ada Shelby (Sophie Rundle) tells her brother that Duke is essentially repeating the old, dangerous ways of the Peaky Blinders. Tommy, however, questions whether he can return to that life, stating in a recently released trailer, “I can’t help him because I’ve changed.”

In a private conversation with the gang leader, Beckett asks if they’re willing to commit an act of treason – something that could determine the outcome of the war in Germany.

Duke, a character introduced in the final season of Peaky Blinders, has a very cynical outlook. He believes neither the world cares about him, nor does he care about the world.

Even though Tommy first believed he wanted no part in the conflict, he ultimately tells Hayden Stagg (Stephen Graham), “It is now,” signaling his commitment.

Let’s be real, family gatherings aren’t always picture-perfect, and this one is shaping up to be… interesting. I’m picturing a pretty tense reunion, starting with Tommy – looking a bit worse for wear, covered in soot, no less – meeting Duke at the Garrison. It’s not a warm embrace, that’s for sure. They just kind of stand there in awkward silence until they both clearly decide a shot of whiskey is necessary.

At the end of the trailer, Tommy says, “I almost had it all, but close isn’t good enough.”

Okay, so I need to know – after everything that happened in the finale, with him leaving his family… what does it even look like when Tommy goes back to where it all began? I’m completely obsessed with finding out what’s waiting for him there, honestly. It’s been driving me crazy thinking about it!

Cillian described the character when we first see him as being at his lowest point. He’s numbing his pain and stuck in a self-made, hopeless situation, living in a large house but not truly living or dying. He’s shut himself off from the world and those he loves.

As fans eagerly anticipate Cillian Murphy returning to his iconic role – and that signature hat with hidden blades – here are some other exciting movies scheduled for release this year.
