Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the role-playing game from Kepler Interactive and Sandfall Interactive, has now sold over 5 million copies, the developers announced on Wednesday.
The game has reached another significant achievement just weeks after selling 4.4 million copies in September. That milestone followed another one in May, when sales hit 3.3 million. These numbers don’t include players accessing the game through Xbox Game Pass.
I was excited to hear that the game has now sold over 5 million copies! The developers announced they’re celebrating by creating a free update for us. It sounds like it’s going to be substantial, adding a brand new area to explore, some really tough challenges for experienced players, and even more outfits to customize our characters with. They also hinted at a few other surprises, which is always fun!
We’re absolutely thrilled with how players have responded to our game,” says Guillaume Broche, creative director at Sandfall Interactive. “We poured years of work into making our vision a reality, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see it connect with people globally. It’s a truly amazing and humbling experience.
This update will expand the game’s language options to include Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. While there’s no confirmed release date, it doesn’t appear to be coming out very soon.
We’re incredibly thankful for our fans and all the amazing things they’ve done – from creating fan art and music, to dressing up as Baguette characters at conventions, and simply being so supportive of our game. We’re working hard on an update as a way of showing our appreciation, so please bear with us while we put the finishing touches on something we think you’ll really enjoy.
A fantastic game gets even better
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is generating a lot of buzz this year, and it’s easy to see why. The game is captivating thanks to its beautiful art style, fantastic music, interesting characters, and truly original gameplay.
Honestly, this game is a strong contender for my game of the year. It’s seriously neck and neck with Hades 2 for the top spot, and I have a feeling a lot of other people feel the same way!
If you haven’t experienced this yet and managed to avoid spoilers, I definitely suggest giving it a try. This new update could be a great time to start, but we’ll need to wait for the developers to announce the official release date.
As an analyst, I think the decision to release it as a free update is a smart move. Honestly, many of us – including myself – would have been perfectly willing to pay for a downloadable content pack or even a full expansion at this stage. It’s a pleasant surprise that it’s coming at no cost.
I’m a little worried about adding even harder fights at the end of the game. Clair Obscur is already really challenging, and I’m concerned the developers might struggle to create enemies that are better than what’s already there. Still, new, powerful enemies could also be a great addition.
You can now play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PCs (through Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and Xbox on PC), and PlayStation 5. It’s also included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions.
