Most actors dream of being in a hugely successful, award-winning project. But Devora Wilde has done something truly special: she’s starred in two such projects back-to-back, a rare achievement that feels like everything she touches turns to gold.
Gabriella Wilde became a fan favorite for her strong performance as Lae’zel in the 2023 game Baldur’s Gate 3, and she captivated players once more as the mysterious Clea in 2025’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Both games were critically acclaimed, winning numerous Game of the Year awards.
I was so curious about how that incredible double feature happened! Apparently, it was totally a lucky accident. That’s what Wilde told TopMob Gaming in their recent Arcade Hang interview, which is awesome!

I audition for every role I can. The process is still pretty standard: my agent submits me for auditions, I go to them, and then I find out if I got the part or not. Often, these auditions are ‘blind,’ meaning the casting directors don’t know who I am beforehand.
Clair Obscur was an audition where the judges didn’t know who I was. It happened right after I finished working on Baldur’s Gate 3, and that’s how I ended up here.
Honestly, going into the project, I was pretty much in the dark. All I had was the codename, a super basic idea of what the story was about, my actual lines, and of course, a description of my character. That was it!
After I was cast, they gave me a lot of background information on the story, which was helpful. My character plays a key role and reveals a new side to the narrative, so understanding everything was important.

I’m a huge fan, and the creator, Wilde, is really careful not to ruin anything for new players, so we didn’t get to talk much about her specific parts in the game. Instead, we spent a lot of time discussing how incredibly successful the game has been, and all the awards both it and Jennifer English, the lead actress, have been winning lately!
Wilde was astonished. He couldn’t believe it, especially seeing people he knew, like Jennifer English. He repeated her name in disbelief: “Jennifer English!”
I wasn’t totally surprised, though I hesitate to say that. Still, actually watching it happen – seeing her receive the award and give her acceptance speech – was surreal. It felt like a dream, and I questioned what was real.
I imagine it feels especially strange for her. It’s been incredible experiencing this journey with friends – that’s really what it’s been like. We’ve been lucky as a cast to be so close and to be able to travel to events and conventions together.
Even though we couldn’t spend much time together while making the game due to distance and COVID restrictions, we were able to connect and spend time together after it was finished, which has been great.

Now that the launch of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is behind us (though it still has a chance to win at the BAFTA Games Awards in April), does the developer want to revisit the character of Clea in a future game?
I didn’t have much screen time with Clea,” she explains. “The audience response has been amazing – everyone is asking for more of her, wanting to know if we’ll explore her character further.”
Someone asked if I’d be up for playing that character again, and I told them ‘not right now.’ But honestly? If the chance ever came up, I’d jump at it. I really enjoyed that role!
She’s a really compelling character, but you only get a brief glimpse of her before the game ends. It’s a shame because I’d love to have learned more about her.
It would be great to learn more about what she was up to during the game, or even see a story set before or after the main events – really, anything that expands on her story would be awesome.
I didn’t get to spend nearly as much time with Clea as Lae’zel, and honestly, I just really enjoyed her character! As an actor, you always wish you had more scenes, more to explore, and I’m definitely the same way. Getting to play with that character again would be amazing.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. For those interested in more from Sandfall Interactive, or to see the full interview, check out the TopMob Gaming YouTube channel.
