Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) like World of Warcraft and Runescape have become incredibly popular and have stood the test of time. These games create immersive fantasy worlds for players, and often thrive thanks to dedicated fans and ongoing updates. EverQuest, released in 1999, is often credited as the first truly successful fantasy MMORPG. Both EverQuest and its 2004 sequel, EverQuest 2, continue to have a loyal player base, and a new installment is planned for release in 2026.
Daybreak Game Company revealed the next chapter in the EverQuest saga on March 24th: EverQuest Legends. Players can expect the game to launch in July 2026, with a closed beta test starting in April. This is the first significant new EverQuest game since EverQuest 2, and appears to be the project Daybreak has been hinting at for the past few years. EverQuest Legends aims to combine the beloved feel of the original EverQuest with the advancements in gaming technology developed over the last 22 years.
EverQuest Legends Reimagines the ClassicsWith Modern, Singleplayer-Friendly Gameplay

EverQuest Legends isn’t meant to replace existing EverQuest games. It’s a fresh take on the original, bringing back the beloved art style – including music, spell effects, and graphics not seen in over 20 years. However, it’s more than just an updated version of the classic game. Legends also includes modern features like an improved user interface and easier ability management. Importantly, it’s designed to be more approachable and focuses on single-player experiences within the classic EverQuest world.
Many popular online role-playing games thrive because players build communities and friendships. However, not everyone wants a highly social gaming experience, and even those who do often enjoy playing alone sometimes. That’s why EverQuest Legends is specifically built for players who prefer to play solo or at a relaxed pace. The game is balanced so you can enjoy it on your own, but it still offers multiplayer options for groups of four and raids with eight players. With the original EverQuest games still available, EverQuest Legends could be a great way for new players to discover this fantasy world.
You can get a first look at the nostalgic feel of EverQuest Legends by watching the announcement trailer below.
Okay, so the graphics are totally giving me early 2000s PC gaming vibes, which I’m honestly loving! But the cool thing is, they’re not just going for nostalgia. They’re adding some modern features to make it way less of a headache to play than some of the old games we remember – you know, where just getting it to run was half the battle!
EverQuest Legends brings back the classic EverQuest experience for dedicated fans, and also offers a great starting point for new players who enjoy single-player RPGs. When the game launches, you’ll be able to explore the continent of Antonica and play as any of the original EverQuest races, all with their original look. While we don’t have a specific date yet, it’s currently scheduled for release in July 2026. If you’re interested in trying the game before everyone else, you can register for the Closed Beta on the official EverQuest Legends website.
I remember spending countless hours in the original EverQuest, and I’m so hyped to see it all reimagined! If you’re a fan like me, or just curious, come chat about it with us in the ComicBook Forum – let’s talk about it!
