Stephen Amell, known for his work in Hollywood, will star in Fox’s new version of Baywatch. He’s been cast as one of the show’s main characters.
The show, originally announced last September, will have 12 episodes and premiere on Fox in the 2026-27 season. It’s a collaboration between Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.
As a big fan of both superhero shows and compelling dramas, I was excited to hear that Stephen Amell – you probably know him as Green Arrow from Arrow, or from Suits: LA and Heels – is joining the Baywatch revival! He’ll be playing Hobie Buchannon, the son of Mitch Buchannon, the legendary character David Hasselhoff made famous. It’s cool to see that legacy continuing with a familiar face like Amell.
The new Baywatch series will show Hobie, previously known as a bit of a rebel, taking after his famous father and becoming a Baywatch Captain, as described in official details about the character.
Hobie’s life is turned upside down when his long-lost daughter, Charlie, shows up wanting to follow in his footsteps and become a Baywatch lifeguard.
No other casting has been announced as yet.
Matt Nix, the showrunner and executive producer, said Stephen Amell was perfect for this new take on Baywatch from the very beginning. He brings the right mix of emotion, intensity, and heroic presence to the role. Nix explained that Amell is a lead actor who can handle both the action and the emotional depth of the story while still keeping things light and enjoyable, and the team is thrilled to begin working with him.

Nix will also be an executive producer, joining the original series’ creators – Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, and Doug Schwartz – as well as Dante Di Loreto.
I first discovered this show about the LA lifeguards way back in 1989, and it quickly became huge – everyone around the world seemed to be watching it! It was amazing to see it take off like that.
In addition to David Hasselhoff, “Baywatch” turned Pamela Anderson into a star and helped launch the careers of actors like Carmen Electra and Jason Momoa.
Production on the reboot is slated to kick off this spring in Venice Beach.
Baywatch will air on Fox in 2026.
