Classic Doctor Who screening confirmed for newly found episodes with special guests and more

Now that two lost episodes of the classic Doctor Who series have been found, plans for a public screening have been finalized.

Film is Fabulous! is hosting a screening at Riverside Studios on Saturday, April 4th. They’ll be showing the first three episodes of the twelve-part story, “The Daleks’ Master Plan.”

This collection features the two rediscovered episodes, ‘The Nightmare Begins’ and ‘Devil’s Planet’, along with the second part of the three-part story, ‘Day of Armageddon’.

The screening will feature introductions and discussions with special guests, though the final guest list is still being finalized.

You can find details about the screening, like how to buy tickets, on the Riverside Studios website.

If you can’t make it to the screening, don’t worry! You’ll be able to watch the episodes soon on BBC iPlayer. Film is Fabulous! is working with the BBC Archives to restore the original 16mm recordings, so they’ll look their best.

Sue Malden, a pioneering archivist at the BBC and a long-time expert in recovering lost television programs – including classic Doctor Who episodes – recently gave an exclusive interview to TopMob after several episodes were found.

Malden, currently working with Film is Fabulous!, shared that someone from the company called him yesterday to express how much they enjoyed the event. He described it as a very moving experience.

It seems Peter Purves was really taken by surprise. He was probably shocked to discover the reason he’d been brought there, but it likely sparked some wonderful memories for him.

Film is Fabulous! is a UK-based charity created by people who love film, cinema, and old TV. They work to protect and save film collections that are at risk, support film collectors, and teach others about the art of filmmaking.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas.
