A beloved game originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987 is being revived for modern consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. It’s a trend fans of older games appreciate – seeing classic titles updated for new audiences. We’re even seeing retro consoles re-released, letting players enjoy the games they loved as kids. This resurgence is happening again soon, sparked by renewed interest from a popular 1975 film.
The classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game Jaws, originally released long after the blockbuster movie thrilled audiences in 1975, is getting a re-release. Published by LJN, the game is famously divisive – players tend to either love it or dislike it. But now, Limited Run Games is bringing it back with two physical editions available for pre-order starting December 19, 2025. This re-release celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Jaws film.
Jaws Is Coming Back on Modern Consoles

Limited Run Games is releasing a new game on Nintendo Switch and PS5 on January 18, 2026. They’ve put up a temporary pre-order page with a thrilling description: “Get ready! You’ll need weapons, explosives, and a map… it’s coming for you, and this is a fight to the death!” The game comes in two editions: a Standard Edition for $34.99 and a special Bigger Boat Edition for $99.99, which includes additional content.

With the 50th anniversary of the original summer blockbuster Jaws, several companies brought the film back to audiences with a re-release. This included showings in IMAX, a new introduction from director Steven Spielberg, a brand-new documentary, and events for fans. A *Jawsthemed game was also released, though it tells a different story than the movie. The game includes extra challenges, special in-game events, and a scoring system. When it launched, it received mixed reactions, with some players enjoying the graphics and gameplay, while others were disappointed.
The NES game Jaws is known for being difficult, which is typical for games from that era. This new release seems to be a direct port of the original, and it’s unlikely any changes have been made. Fans can expect the same gameplay experience on PS5 or Switch as they remember from the 1980s. Pre-orders begin December 19, 2025, at 10:00 am EST. Don’t miss out – if you do, you might have to dig out your old NES and cartridge to play!
