Classic Nintendo 64 Franchise Reportedly Returning in 2026

A beloved video game series that first appeared on the Nintendo 64 is likely making a comeback in 2026. The N64 is famous for having an incredible collection of games, including the first installments of franchises like Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros., Mario Party, Banjo-Kazooie, and Perfect Dark. It also gave us amazing games like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which built on already popular series. Now, a game that originally launched on the N64 in 1997 is confirmed to be returning, and we have a good idea of when to expect it.

Fans can expect a new installment in the classic shooter series Turok next year, according to a report from MP1st. Originally published by Acclaim, Turok first gained popularity on the Nintendo 64 with the release of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter in 1997. This was followed by several successful sequels – Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Turok: Rage Wars, and Turok: Shadow of Oblivion – all for the N64. While the series continued on other platforms with Turok: Evolution and a 2008 reboot simply titled Turok, development was paused shortly after.

Good news for fans of the Turok series: Saber Interactive is bringing the franchise back! Turok: Origins was announced at The Game Awards last year with a trailer that got many longtime players excited. However, the initial announcement left out a key detail: when the game would actually be released.

A developer at Saber Interactive recently added Turok: Origins to their work portfolio, indicating a planned release in 2026. This is the first time a specific launch window has been announced for the new Turok game. While Saber Interactive hasn’t officially confirmed this timeframe, the information is likely accurate given it came from a person directly involved in the game’s development.

If the release date for Turok: Origins is really 2026, we’ll likely get another look at the game soon. Saber Interactive first showed the game at The Game Awards in 2024, so they might use that event again in just over a week to share more details. Either way, it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer for the return of this classic Nintendo 64 series. Let’s hope the long wait has been worth it!
