Classic Shonen Jump Creator Returning With New Story After 10 Years

A popular manga artist who previously published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump is starting a new series after a decade. While Shonen Jump is moving into a new era—having ended several major and long-running stories in 2025—more series are expected to conclude in 2026, making way for fresh content like this new work.

With the new year, Shonen Jump is concluding some of its ongoing series, but this opens the door for new manga to gain popularity. Several short, standalone stories will be released, hoping to impress readers enough to earn a full serialization. One of these new stories comes from the creator of Nisekoi: False Love, who hasn’t launched a full series since that romantic comedy finished in 2016 (as noted by @WSJ_manga on X).

Nisekoi’s Creator Returns to Shonen Jump After 10 Years

I’m so excited! Naoshi Komi, the creator of Nisekoi, is releasing a brand new one-shot manga! It’s a romantic comedy all about love songs, and it’s called ‘Iikagen Kizuke’. You’ll be able to find it in the upcoming 6/7 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump – I can’t wait to read it!

Manga artist Naoshi Komi is returning to Shonen Jump with a new short story called “Iikagen Kizuke.” It will appear in the magazine’s January issue and marks ten years since he last created a full series for them. While Komi has done some smaller projects with Shueisha since then, none have achieved the same success or length as his popular series, Nisekoi: False Love. However, this new one-shot story could be his next big hit.

I’m still waiting to hear the official English title for this new one-shot manga, and whether it will be released outside of Japan. From what I’ve gathered, it’s being described as a sweet and funny romantic comedy. Considering how popular Nisekoi was, a romcom could really take off with today’s Shonen Jump audience. We’ve seen some smaller hits like Hima-Ten! and Blue Box already filling that niche, but it seems like there will be even more opportunities for diverse series in 2026.

You Should Check Out Nisekoi

Originally published in 2011 and concluding in 2016, Nisekoi: False Love isn’t usually among the first titles fans mention when discussing Shonen Jump’s most popular series. This is partly because its anime adaptation was shorter than those of other shows that debuted around the same time, like My Hero Academia. However, a major reason is simply that Nisekoi is a romantic comedy. While Shonen Jump has featured many stories in this genre, they don’t tend to receive the same attention as action-packed series.

Unlike many other romance stories, Nisekoi immediately established a central couple who were expected to end up together—despite their families being rival Yakuza clans. As often happens in these types of series, other potential love interests added to the drama. However, it ultimately delivered a satisfying and heartwarming conclusion, much like the best romantic stories. It’s a shame it’s hard to watch now, as the anime isn’t currently available on streaming services.
