During the recent PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted, Clockwork Revolution didn’t get a new trailer, but game director Chad Moore and studio head Brian Fargo did discuss the upcoming RPG. Fargo described Clockwork Revolution as his most complex project yet, which is a significant statement given his history of creating intricate RPGs.
So, I recently heard from Brian Fargo, a legend who used to work at Interplay on some of my all-time favorite RPGs – stuff like The Bard’s Tale, Wasteland, and even the original Fallout games. He’s working on Clockwork Revolution now, and he said it’s the most complex game he’s ever made. That really got my attention! He explained that’s because everything is super detailed – from building your character to how the story reacts to your choices, and even just how the world works. It sounds like they’re really going all-out with this one, and honestly, my expectations are pretty high now.
Honestly, building my character feels super impactful, and the world really reacts to my choices. If you saw the trailer, you got a taste of how dark and funny this game is – and that’s just the beginning! We’ve barely scratched the surface of the world, the gameplay, and all the crazy characters I’m going to encounter. It’s going to be huge!
Moore explained that Clockwork Revolution will be far more responsive to player choices than most games. This is due to the game’s core focus on reactivity, but it also creates a challenge for the developers. Players will be able to travel back in time and change events, leading to new and unexpected consequences later in the game.
Moore explained that they’re significantly increasing the game’s complexity by allowing players to travel to the past and change events with their decisions, creating a truly reactive world.
Fargo highlighted the game’s intricate design in June, explaining how player decisions would impact the story and how conversations with multiple characters would unfold.
We wanted to connect directly with dedicated RPG players and give them a true sense of what our game offers,” explained Fargo. “We took our time, focused on genuine conversation, and highlighted how the game’s mechanics work. The scene featuring Alfie is more than just a dramatic moment; it establishes the game’s atmosphere. This game can be harsh – not only in battles, but also through the consequences of your decisions and the world’s reactions. We’re prioritizing a deep, responsive RPG experience – the kind we love to create and our players anticipate, rather than just focusing on flashy cutscenes.”
Moore discussed how talking to various characters influences the game’s story. He explained that with more characters involved, conversations can easily take unexpected turns and end up in places the writers didn’t initially plan.
The game Clockwork Revolution is being developed for PC and Xbox Series X/S. Although there’s no confirmed release date, recent speculation suggests it could be available in 2026.
