Calling your game “the most complex” or “the most ambitious” can mean different things depending on what you’ve made before. So when Brian Fargo, a key creator of Fallout, says that about inXile’s Clockwork Revolution, it’s a significant statement.
I’m really excited about this new game! The director, Chad Moore – he used to work on Arcanum, which I loved – told Game Informer they’re putting a huge emphasis on making choices actually matter. They want every decision I make to feel personal, like it genuinely changes the story in a surprising and believable way. It sounds like they’re aiming for a really immersive experience, and that’s exactly what I’m hoping for.
In the steampunk city of Avalon, the wealthy elite control time travel. In Clockwork Revolution, you play as Morgan Vanette, who gains the same ability, letting you change the city to your liking. The developers at InXile wanted these changes to feel natural, deeply engaging, and personal to each player.
What really sets our game, Clockwork Revolution, apart is how deeply the world reacts to your choices. When you travel back in time and alter events, you don’t just create a new path – you return to a present-day Avalon that has visibly changed based on your actions. We’ve meticulously designed the city to reflect these changes in a way that feels both natural and rewarding. The world truly responds to what you do, which is something you don’t often see in games,” explained Moore.
The game sounds incredibly promising, especially given the many different groups involved, each with their own goals – and some might even be using Vanette’s ability to travel through time. Like the studio’s last hit, Wasteland 3, your choices could have a huge impact, but with a bigger budget and a larger scope, Clockwork Revolution has the potential to be even more impressive.
These issues could also explain why the game doesn’t have a release date, despite one of the writers suggesting it might come out this year. However, with Xbox planning more events like Developer_Direct, it’s likely we’ll hear about Vanette’s time-traveling story again soon.
